The Leafs have survived without having Lupul in the lineup and point wise, Lupul is far more productive than Clarkson. Clarkson has edge and grit which can be temporarily replaced with Bodie or Colborne. It's funny how some think losing Clarkson for 10 games will devestate this team.

The Leafs look tough this year and have depth. They other teams to hate playing against them... I think thats going to happen this year.

- Captain_Quiffe

So you are saying they shouldn't have signed Clarkson?

He's a top 6 forward on this team. A team that will likely be with 4 to 6 points of 8th in either direction. I repeat to think losing a top 6 forward, won't hurt this teams playoff chances is very naive.

Injuries happen....this didn't have to. It was a dumb move by Carlyle and a dumb move by Clarkson and if they miss the playoffs by 2 points......well....

It will hurt to lose Clarkson for 10 games....... but what he did demonstrate is that he will go after anyone who (frank)s with our players.

I'll take that kind of player on my team everytime.

100% agree. I think Clarkson didn't think, just reacted. Team guy, whether it was a smart move or not.

The whole incident was one ridiculously dumb decision after another.

I'm baffled that a fan of either team could find some sort of positive in this heap of poop.

Especially Toronto. Everyone knows buffalo is fighting for a lottery pick, but toronto has a real good chance to compete.

I dunno how letting the "useless goon" get two of your best players suspended is going to help.

The playoff race is going to be tight, especially in this division. Clarksons 10 games could end up being a huge deal.

And in the end that's all that will matter.

Is the 10 games official?
- bixll

i don't recall it ever being overturned...
however here is the rule right out of the nhl rulebook
"70.10Fines and Suspensions – The first player to leave the players’ or
penalty bench illegally during an altercation or for the purpose of
starting an altercation
from either or both teams shall be suspended
automatically without pay for the next ten (10) regular League and/or
Play-off games of his team."

Clarkson can argue that he wasn't trying to start an altercation, and he was trying to prevent it, because he never threw a punch nor did he try to.
so..... there is a slim chance he wont get the full 10

Or it could backfire on the Sabres.

With Clarkson gone for 10 games, we may miss the playoffs. Which means we end up in the lottery. And if we win the lottery then the Sabres get (frank)ed again.

thrill

clarkson

and ashton

I personally have been more impressed with Devane than with Ashton. Other than Leaf media personalities blowing smoke up Ashton's arse, I still have not seen anything worth keeping him around.

I love how many people are crying and complaining about what Kessel did to protect himself from an absolute plug of a human trying to smash his face in. Every single one of you would have slashed that ogre to keep him at bay, and they weren't that hard of slashes, or the spear, let's be real. Phil Kessel wasn't hiding behind a computer screen anonymously out there....

It will hurt the team, but not likely their playoff chances. Who knows. I think something like this will bring the team closer together, despite losing a key player on the team. You're right, this didn't have to happen, but an unexpected move like Scott trying to fight Kessel shouldn't have happened either and as a veteran leader on this team trying to earn respect, Clarkson just reacted. Yea it wasn't the wisest choice, but he did it for the sake of a star player, not a selfish reason so I can forgive him and respect him for an error of judgement.

If the Leafs plan on being a playoff team, they're going to have to learn how to play games without key pieces. If the Leafs miss the playoffs by two points, it won't be a single players fault, it will be a collective failure with blame being spread around.

So, did Bernier earn the opening night game with that fight mixed with his play?

Just seen the replay and I must say, I'm looking forward to the next game between these two teams. Would love to see Scott get his ass kicked. Great job Bernier!!

Bernier and Clarkson making a point of sticking up for thier teamates is something i think will help the team. 2 new players who now are on my Fav list after that.

Leafs will be fine...thanks for the concern though.

Considering i have been jumped like that, I can say with absolute confidence that no, I would not be flailing my stick around like some medieval knight.

All he had to do was skate away. It didn't appear as if Scott was very determined, and the whole Toronto team was on him in a second.

There is literally no reason Kessel needed to be using his stick as a weapon.

I can't stand the pronunciation of his name though - so I hope he's gone. I'm just that petty.

I had not seen Bernier play prior to this pre-season, and was on the fence on who would be the number 1. Not any more though. Bernier is miles ahead of Riemer, with way better rebound control, puck handling abilities, and he can also toss them to boot.
