This is Carlyles fault? He had last change, so he put out Kessel against an enforcer line in the hopes of generating offense, that's what coaches do with last change.

If Kessel had dropped the gloves, yes the conversation would be different, but it would still be on why Scott would even try and fight a 30 goal scorer, how many elite scorers drop the gloves? VERY few. And it's not even the fighting that's the issue. It was the fact that Scott didn't wait for ANYTHING. The puck was dropped and he immediately threw off the gloves and lunged at Kessel. He didn't wait to give Kessel a chance to get ready like you're supposed to.

Yes fighting is his job, but jumping a top forward who isn't ready isn't fighting, that's ambushing.

Kessel should not get a suspension for the slash, that's fine, he got him in the shin guards. But, the spear after things were settled down and while Scott was already tied up should get 5 games. It's that kinda crap they need to get out of the game.

Kind of surprised that so many Leafs fans are defending Kessel's stick-work. That stuff has no place in the game, regardless of circumstance. If you think that it does, what happens when everyone starts swinging their sticks like that? Are we going back to the Bobby Clarke era Flyers? Kessel should be made an example of what will not be tolerated in hockey anymore.
