Scott crossed the line that apparently goons follow. He went after a non-fighter who had no interest in fighting. He told Phil before the puck dropped that he was gonna jump him, which means it was pre-meditated as well.

Kessel may get something for the slashes (I doubt any regular season games), but you can guarantee Scott gets a few too.

You should never have to wonder if someone is going to try to mug your best player when you put him out on the ice, period. Kessel isn't a dirty player, he's not skating around the ice taking cheap shots and trying to hurt people, so he's off limits. That should go for any team's skilled guys. It probably didn't even occur to Carlyle that Scott might do something that scummy.
