Tropp did start the fight though, not condoning what happended after that.

Carlyle didn't want the situation to escalate so instead of putting out a goon (only one they had dressed tonight was in the box) he put out skill. There is a code fighters live by in the NHL and that wasn't followed tonight. There was zero reason for that goof to do what he did. None.

Devane's (6'5") B#$&S#*& forearm driving Corey Tropp's (6'0")helmut less head through the ice was the catalyst - Kessel is not a choir boy and was chirping at Tropp after he scored, as was Devane - Kessel can handle himself or does he get a pass because he is an above average player? Devane a skill player? 4th liner? Devane's recklessness and playing MMA on Tropp was what started all of this. I could care less if Devane pummels Tropp in a fight, but slamming his head into the ice was wrong. Shanahan should review that.

Their stats are pretty similar if you look at a per game basis.. Why are we arguing this? Why does every discussion end up being "Your random player sucks more than our random player!"? Vanek's good, Kessel's good.

Not sure which slash (or spear) it was, but the 10 minute match penalty is only assessed when there is an intent to injure. And a review by the league is automatic.

Is this the first hockey fight you've seen? When a guy goes down that fast the other guy often ends up on top of him. It happens all the time which is why the league wants guys to keep their helmets on.

It's the reason he put Kessel out, though. You diffuse a situation by icing players who don't fight. Scott looked at Kessel and said he would attack him, Kessel defended himself as best he could and took a few extra whacks out of anger. Is that ok? Probably not, but how was it ok for Scott to just jump a guy?
