Yup, if Gagner is only a couple inches taller, he takes it in the shoulder or maybe neck. No broken jaw then. Good thinking. - ruttager17
Course not; really inappropriate remark.
I'm more concerned with the cheap elbow by Weiss on Hall. The response by Brown was weak and wholly ineffective. I give Brown credit for stepping up, but neither he nor any other Oiler gave the 'nucks any fear of reprisals for liberties taken.
remember Hall got injured in that fight with a fringe player who was clearly harassing him a shift or so before the fight. No Oiler came to Hall's defence. Do we really want our best guys dropping the gloves to fight when their hands are so crucial to their game?

I agree with most around here I don't think a true heavyweight is the answer need a fighter/player. - Yeti1181
they nee some sort of fighter that is bigger than brown.
Hate to say it Stortini put up the best numbers for a fighter since Laraque left EDM. |

I think he is owned by rangers. and the Ducks own Maroon. But if they go on waivers I would give them a try. If worst comes to worst they could help OKC and Oil would have to make a trade for a proven player. |

I'd be fine with Maroon or a Mashinter type and Colburne along with Brown as the 4th line.
joensuu IMO may have made Jones expendable for a Center now |

while I agree with your basic sentiments, ive always sorta looked at the whole heavyweight thing like this;
it's not like when torts tells his outgunned team to attempt to put 'physical pressure' and rough up our kids abit, that weise or whoever is gonna think to himself "cant do it. if I hit hit hall, Macintyre might come beat me up".
he's a 4th liner and that's his role. if he doesn't play that style, he's outta the nhl and minus a job. and maybe he will take a beating, but if he gets a chance to hammer hall, he's gonna take it.
it's going to happen no matter who we have sitting on the bench. and even if they do send out mac, generally the other team sends out their heavy bag, the 2 tilt and we dont see either for the rest of the game. it's a dying part of the game.
it's more about our top 6 and even 3rd line being bigger, more well rounded and able to establish some physicality themselves. skill and speed is great, but when we're unable to employ any other tactic than that, we become way too easy to play against.
team toughness and more sandpaper is the key imo.
I keep hearing about Chicago and how they aren't that 'tough'. this isn't the point.
while they certainly employ skill as their best asset, u cant tell me toews, bickell, bolland and even hossa (dude's huge and a beast on the puck no matter how some may want to pigeonhole him a 'skill' player) aren't tough as hell to play against as well as being incredibly skilled.
every team is gonna have their krejci's, kane's, and eberle's. but those other teams also have bickell, horton, clowe, even neal etc riding shotgun.
we need to be able to push back and make life tough on the oppositions stars. all while attempting to score goals.
this league isn't just about; top 6 is small and scores. 3rd line only checks and plays defence. 4th line only plugs and goons. those best teams have such a better blend throughout than we do |

Well, I guess that means that this blogger is quitting after today's blog too. Thanks dude, you were a fairly entertaining writer and it's too bad you threw in the towel so soon.
So, who is the next blogger who won't quit?
As for the Oilers...I'm sure things will work themselves out and at least with this new coach THEY won't quit.

NYI need a defenseman desperately, although they don't seem to realize it. They have two very good #2 and #3 centers in Bailey and Nielsen and the the depth at center to cover the loss of one of them, but Oil would probably need to sweeten the pot with a good prospect in addition to a reputable D. |

That story is so (frank)ed up, everyone from within Edmonton denies it and talks about another Eager/Brown. So who the hell knows. If we are looking for a fighter it only makes sense to go after a superheavy at this point. |
