You look at what guys got this summer. The Higgins contract is solid. However with Boothand Hansen already under contract I think it was a bad signing - Kaptainkesler
We really need a top six forward right now!!!! Send/Waive Booth to the minors or whatever it takes, just get a (frank)in top six guy in here Gillis you stupid fricken idiot!!!
Ok I feel better now. |

The IR route for surgery clears the whole cap hit. And a good game togight gives Shink at least a 9 game audition |

Looks like we need another lockout to get those players inline
Sorry, a lot of pent up posts and old rants seeping through. I am glad to a certain extent that Raymond is gone, in my head I always compared him to Hansen, and Hansen is great value and Raymond was overpaid except for his one good season.
Higgins seemed of a similar ilk to Hansen, and his previous contract was great value. Just with the way the salary cap has gone, big stars getting even bigger money, it is hard to pay the bottom 6 and not look for good value-cheap and can play. I guess this is where the youth under entry level contracts should slot in.
I am happy to see Alberts back at that reduced salary and just to have his size in the lineup, even tho he doesn't always play big.
Edit: Booth has to go if he isn't producing, guessing Higgins has put up similar numbers since Booth has been a Canuck. |

Big surprise the owners keep handing out crazy contracts. The people that supported the owners should have their head examined

More cap room doesn't equal a top 6 forward. We had a few options in the summer but those have gone. We'll need a trade to get a top 6 guy and it'll take a bit. |

I think FA was all over giving Lou that contract and felt responsible for it. FA has to answer to big poppa. I don't even know if Gillis wanted Torts (was it his first choice of available replacements?) or if that was FA too.
edit: If MG and FA were talking before Nonis was actually let go, who knows what plans were made for the team and management structure. I am guessing FA is used to getting his own way. - hillbillydeluxe
Quite possibly it was FA pushing for that contract from what we hear and see. Gillis and AV definitely were the ones who "collectively decided to go with CS as their starter moving forward" as AV and Gillis liked to say regarding this topic. If what you say is true about FA's finger prints all over Lu's contract, then Gillis and AV certainly didnt see eye to eye with FA... and the Luongo fiasco has been nothing but problems. From the owners eyes it must be a case of holding management responsible not Luongo or himself. |

There won't be any turnovers, they'll all be in the back of the opposition net |

Thank you, Alex! Most keep assuming that with cap space that suddenly a top 6 forward that fits the team and won't have a bad contract will magically appear on the roster. UFA bidding is crazy and trades aren't easy in a cap world. |

I think the salary cap may have hurt the poorer teams more than it has helped. They have to spend to the floor. If there wasn't a floor, and there was a luxury tax or w/e, there might be more disparity, but I think the poorer teams could ice some lineups with the scraps and, I dunno. Just hate the cap and all the bs circumvention and favored teams getting away with it. (Pronger) |

Just thought GMMG was all about reasonable term like the Sedins contract that was signed around that time. We/me expect the Sedins to retire Canucks, but Luongo is signed to this long contract and I am sure there was included a headstone with his name on it and plot reserved in the goalie graveyard.
MG had to get special permission to offer that contract to Luongo if FA or ownership weren't the ones offering it in the first place.
I don't think there was a collective decision to go with Schneider - but I really have nothing to back that up. Can't really see how AV in that French interview the summer before could have said Schneider was the guy and Luongo was on the block. It was all so mismanaged, I can't understand how it got to where we are now - just poor management of the situation and Luongo didn't help with his comments either, hey lets trade for the guy who says his contract sucks!
If Luongo was traded, it wouldn't have been long for Schneider to have a stinker (happens to every goalie now and then) and had fans saying the wrong goalie was traded. Anyway, I think FA and family are into hockey and into the way the Canucks are run, which can be both good and bad for the club. |
