stepan.

although i will say that richie looked good in his 1st preseason game. way too early to tell if he'll rebound but i think it's possible.

edit: and even the poopty richards last year might be considered his most talented center ever

Stepan is a 2nd line center and who knows when you guys will even sign him. No offense but you guys act like torts was holding the rangers back. I would argue he allowed them to overachieve especially in the playoffs. Torts was a good coach.
- mighty13duck

i always thought stepan's ceiling was a really good 2nd line center but 44 points in 48 games is 1st line center numbers. the big question is if he can repeat that pace and yes, when he will be signed.

torts was a good coach and we overachieved under him before trading for nash but he didn't adapt to the roster. we played a very defense-first, no-creativity-dump-and-chase-and-cycle offensive style which worked when our most talented guy besides gaborik was brandon dubinsky. but now that the kids like mcdonagh, mdz, stepan, hagelin, cally etc. are coming into their own and we have offensive talent that can pass and move the puck like kreider, nash, richards (if he rebounds), john moore, brassard, etc. in addition to the previously mentioned players, we need to play a different system.

with lundqvist, we can cheat a little defensively to create more offense. and with more goal support, even if lundqvist puts up less impressive numbers, we might end up winning more games.

torts was great when he was here but his system and style of play didn't match this roster anymore.

you are 100% correct.

but your buddy said:

See, the problem with that is that stats have a lot to do with everyone else who is on the ice. I usually judge players by watching them actually play. If Grabner had Nash's hands, he'd be twice as good as Nash, because he's quite possibly the fastest thing I've seen on two skates. Unfortunately, Grabner has Roberto Duran hands most of the time, especially on a breakaway. Nash, on the other hand, is a pure sniper- if you want to talk about someone we could use on Tavares' wing....that would be the ticket, right there.

too bad for you guys that nash was on pace to score 39 goals last year in a defense-only system on a team he was unfamiliar with.

with an opened up offense and a year of chemistry with his teammates, i would not be surprised to see nash hit 50 this season.

- rangerdanger94

How would that have been "Bad for Us?" Was he going to score them only while playing vs. the Islanders? Now THAT, I would be impressed to see.

So, according to you, Nash is now the next, second-coming of the Rangers Savior?
Not Richards.
Not Gaborik.
Not Drury & Gomez. Yeah remember them?
Not Theo.
Not Pavel.
Not Gretz.
Not Mess 2.0.
Not Lindros.

Seems almost every year, you guys have the next most amazing player in the league who's going to have a career year for you. And all off season & pre-season we have to hear your loud mouths shouting atop any soapbox you can find. Only guy in recent years that lived up to his hype was Jagr and you guys rode him until he decided to quasi-retire/go back to play in Europe. You realize, we all just laugh at how great you think your team will be each year and wait for the inevitable.

Yes, Rangers have a better record over the past decade but we don't go around talking about a Stanley Cup in September. It's called humility. Maybe Jan could make it the topic of his next blog.....if he ever returns. There is always the chance he finally got fed up with how dumb & arrogant some of you are and just said, "Screw it, I'm OUT!"

jan is celebrating the jewish holidays doucher.

jeez you're taking my trolling a little too seriously. but i wouldn't include gaborik on that list of ranger saviors because gabby actually played really well.

and yea i remember drury and gomez. the guy that bred stepan and cally into the players they are today (drury) and the guy that helped us steal one of the top young defenseman in the world in mcdonagh (gomez).

You don't have to explain yourself. It must suck to grow up seeing the Isles suck for years, and now seeing them building a powerhouse team for years that will be better than the Rangers. Its a tough transition.

realistically, i think both the islanders and rangers (providing we re-sign lundqvist) are gonna be 2 of the better teams in the league for close to the next decade

Rangers will be one of the better team for the next 2-3 years. The next decade teams like Edmonton Isles CBJ and panthers will be the top teams of the NHL. Its not about who is on the roster now, its about the age of the players, the star quality of the player and the players in the pipeline

agreed, and 17 of the rangers' 21 players are under the age of 30 and our pipeline is exploding with close-to-nhl-ready talent in kristo, miller, mcilrath, lindberg, fast, hvirik, etc.

the rangers, like the islanders, are a young team with a lot of experience. we're both gonna be good for the next 5-10 years.

Anybody see highlights of the Leafs/Sabres brawl?? John Scott comes off looking foolish for going after Kessel.

Why did that start? I saw Scott go after Kessel, which I don't understand since goons shouldn't be flexing their muscles against the other team's stars. But, I guess if would be okay IF Kessel did something to warrant Scott going after him. I didn't see the game so I have no idea.

Regardless, Scott may have looked foolish for going after Kessel, but Kessel looked like a bi*ch for swinging his stick at Scott instead of either dropping his gloves or just skating away. The stick nonsense is inexcusable. Then, Kessel tried to spear Scott again on his way off the ice.

And BTW, the Bernier/Miller fight was ridiculous. I know everyone loves a good goalie fight (Except RDP), but Bernier/Miller came across as so staged and forced.
