Oh please, everyone knows the refs are always against Toronto. It's a fact. You keep reminding us every game.

And I've never heard or seen the bolded part.

they didn't have to draft them, just had to buy the junior team they were playing on...GREAT PARITY

As well they should.

This isn't a team in a cap pinch, and their top-3 guys will be tied up for a combined 18M for a very long time, as the cap rises.

No worries there, at all.

- Feeling Glucky?

Nope. I was hoping from the beginning they'd get them for 18 mill.

you would think they would open camp with the 30 guys that have a realistic chances at playing 1 game this year. instead they open with what looks like a football roster... such a waste of time.
- Rockhead_37

I disagree, they got a good look at a lot of their prospects while giving the prospects a taste of what it's like to play in an NHL game.

It's another reason I think Colborne makes the big club.

At $600,000 a year, he's an easy decision.

My wild, fearless, nothing-to-base-it-on prediction: the Leafs trade Kulemin to make way for Franson. (AW-0)

Nobody's saying he isn't a good player. He might turn out to be the next Toews, Bergeron or Datsyuk with his offensive and defensive prowness but he also might turn into a guy who scored a ton in junior but became a defensive specialist like John Madden or Bobby Carpenter. Considering what Kadri got it's either a massive overpayment by the Oilers or the Leafs comlpetely robbed Kadri. Even with Kadri playing great, which I think he will, he won't be paid more than 6 mill. Now though, he'll get that amount.
- therealagent

Apples and Oranges. You can't do a direct comparison of 2.9 vs. 6.0. In theory he'll be worth a lot more in later years than over the first two ....and so will Kadri.

Its all risk - for both sides. If he's the #1 centre in 2 years and the cap predictably goes up he could be making a lot more than RNH over those years.
- The Law

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. I agree, both bridge deals and long-term deals come with different advantages and disadvantages for both teams and players.

I think team circumstances dedicated the recent deals in both edm and tor.

If there is a time to sign long-term deals, i see it as now. Signing a player to an 8-year deal with 3 years left in the current cba is a very high risk move imo.

Exactly. And like I said, Kadri could very well end up making more than 6 after this bridge.

It's a big gamble with bridge contracts too.

Habs would look pretty smart right now had they signed Subban to a long term deal for 5-6 mill. Now they are gonna have to pony up absolute top dollar for him next year.
