I just liked his answer, don't really care if what RNH got is a good contract or not.

did kadri really say that? if so, good for him.
i like the nuge but man, he hasn't done enough to get that kind of contract. there are a lot of people saying it will be a steal by year 3 but what if it isn't? shultz has already proven he isn't loyal by bailing on the ducks and he'll want his big payday as well. yakupov is russian so you can't predict anything. the oilers biggest problem is their bottom 6 depth and defensive depth. if they invest too much in top end talent, they are screwed.

i think it's a lot for a player who has had injury problems and was on pace for an 8-goal season. time will tell.

He actually played quite well last year considering his shoulder injury.

It's easy to tell who hasn't seen him play when they bring up his goal totals from last year.

of course he's going to say that.

As much as I don't like seeing a guy lose his job due to a slash from a teammate, I'm hoping that McLaren is sent down.

I'd rather see Colborne make the squad.

And since I'm guessing Raymond has earned a spot, I just don't think we have alot of extra roster spots kicking around.

mclaren is tougher than orr now.

id rather have lost orr in the off season, but yet we resigned him.

mclaren is better at every aspect of hockey than orr is.

what has colborne done? ever?

i'm not claiming to have seen him play but his point totals were his point totals. how is his production in dispute?

His skill level and hockey IQ will take care of that. He played a great 2-way game last year. It was what he focused on.

I'm happy to have him for another 8 years

Nobody's saying he isn't a good player. He might turn out to be the next Toews, Bergeron or Datsyuk with his offensive and defensive prowness but he also might turn into a guy who scored a ton in junior but became a defensive specialist like John Madden or Bobby Carpenter. Considering what Kadri got it's either a massive overpayment by the Oilers or the Leafs comlpetely robbed Kadri. Even with Kadri playing great, which I think he will, he won't be paid more than 6 mill. Now though, he'll get that amount.

Its a gamble, the team has to pay now for potential that hasnt been realized yet. I dont see a problem with it really. The leafs are paying 5.2 (5 years) for a very injury prone Lupul who is 29.

RNH has a much higher upside, the cap will almost certainly go up. in 3 years the 6 million could look like a very good deal for Edmonton. Again its a risk, but a calculated one. A team cant assume a player will be injured half the time and try to pay him accordingly.

He has 100 games is 20 years old and an 82 game average of 17-43-60

He's a better player than Kadri and Kadri could very well end up getting paid more due to his bridge contract. It's an investment and there's no investment without risk.

wonder if really cares, or does it motivate/demotivate to see guys of similar ilk signing long term contracts for more $$ then what he just got.
- vermie22

Its all risk - for both sides. If he's the #1 centre in 2 years and the cap predictably goes up he could be making a lot more than RNH over those years.

undrafted John Madden and Bobby Carpenter who was drafted over 30 years ago

those are your comparisons

dont we all - only arguement is the guy needs to get bigger and stronger to surivive a full career of success (im not chirping).

As well they should.

This isn't a team in a cap pinch, and their top-3 guys will be tied up for a combined 18M for a very long time, as the cap rises.

No worries there, at all.
