I do not understand why the Leafs won't give Franson the 1 year deal he wants if it's for the rumored 2.5M. The leafs PP will be even more awful without him. From the info I gathered it seems he wants 3M for 2 years or 2.5m for 1 year. Leafs seem to be offering 2.5M for 2 years or 2M for 1 year. - PootieTang
cause he'll got to arb next year and screw them on a 1 and done.
plus they can't afford to have 6 of 7 dmen with expiring contracts after this season - just a bad situation.

I think that seems to be the case. Just by watching his interviews he looks like he is going to want to see his options and pick the city he wants to be in the most. I would explore the option of trading him but only if it's a 1 for 1 trade for another established young star in the league. - PootieTang
you can't take anything from Kessel's interviews. He just says the thought that's in his head and has no idea how it sounds or plays out.

I think you're reading far too much into his interviews. |

Jets just released Ian White from his PTO. I wouldn't wind the leafs signing him for 600,000 because
1) he is a Right shot
2) he had some good years in Toronto, and has gotten at least 26 points 5 times in his career.
3) he would come cheap, and would be a decent fit alongside a guy like Fraser if Franson doesn't sign.
4) If it doesn't pan out, they can send him down to the marlies and none of his salary would count against the cap.
Thoughts? |

Pointless.
Ranger, Rielly, MacWilliam.
Rather let them play over signing an oldie like White. |

So are we signing Franson today?
Or is White the new target, trade Franson for a 7th rounder? |

We have enough bodies, we don't need a smaller, older player like Ian White. I would just as soon play Liles since we already have him under contract. |

What in the hell is the fascination with Ian White for (frank) sakes??
he's nothing special and he's not what the Leafs need.
He just got cut by the Jets, what makes you think that he'll make the Leafs better?? |

My thoughts exactly. Look at his career....there is a reason why he hasn't been able to stick with one team. He is obviously easily replaceable, and has no place on this team. Especially with Liles under contract. |

Sure ,Reimer has been pretty good for them, and bernier has shown some flashes at the nhl level like lehner.Toronto,s defense is in a situation like ottawa up front ,they have some pieces but their best hopes lie with their kids.Like Reilly,Gardener, franson etc.Where is our top 4 is a bit more established, with Cowen,EK and Methot all looking like locks for the top 4 ,with an emerging weircoch joining them - top shelf 15
Cowen and his 90 established NHL games are so much better than Gardiner and his kid-like 87 games. I hope Franson can take his 243 games he's played and start to establish himself like the 90 gamer!! |

Yeah, seriously...he was decent for the Leafs when he was here but there wasn't a whole lot to be excited about with that Leafs team...I think people look back and remember saying hey at least this Ian White guy is decent and extrapolating that to think he's still anything significant. Being okay on those Leafs teams wasn't saying much. |
