go look at my post. RNH does NOT have similar numbers. Even if you project his numbers at double for the shortened season that's 8 goals. A little shy of 29. - Isles_since_6
???
.75 ppg over their first 2 seasons.

not really because he won't have a huge year without Taylor Hall having a huge year along with him, in that case they wouldn't give him more than Hall anyway - jimbro83
So that's why Malkin makes more than Crosby..right. Gotcha..Gms can only give their core players the same amount as the best one. |

That's another thing I don't understand. Why not just wait to see how this season goes? If he puts together another solid year then pay him the $6 million per. What if he's below average again? Doesn't make a lot of sense. - iknowbest
Here is where you guys don't get it. We committed to Hall and Eberle. We don't commit to RNH and he plays real well he can then tell us to (frank) off on a hometown discount and ask for 7 or 8mil. |

I tore that contract to shreds too - jimbro83
As did I. Like I said I hate these deals, but they are here to stay. That is until teams need more buyouts and new rules on lower contracts. |

Tavares = Overrated... Very good, but very overrated.
Tavares after 3 years = No better than Hall after 3 years
Tavares after 2 years = No better than RNH after 2 years
Tavarers after 1 year = No better than Yakupov after 1 year

What? It has nothing to do with their individual talent level, it has to do with this idea getting tossed around that RNH had to make 6 mil/yr because he gave that to other players. No, no he didn't at all. |

Why didn't the Islanders wait to see how the third season would go? - Blackstrom2
I'm guessing it's because Tavares was coming off a season in which he had just scored 30 goals and 40 assists. Everyone knows Tavares is special. Insane junior numbers, great first 2 season in the NHL and will become one of the best players in the league. RNH has potential but his ceiling is not what Tavares' is. Plus RNH has serious injury problems. |

Oh (frank) off. You were #1 fan predicted breakout years and becoming one of the new top players in the game.
Which you were right about, but now you are calling him overrated?

Tavares is a beast. But I don't see why Hall or RNH suddenly don't have the ability to become what Tavares is, and maybe more.
It's not like he was Stamkos or MacKinnon coming up.
f MacKinnon, I meant McDavid. - Blackstrom2
Not sure if your being serious or not. Have not followed the whole thread.
Stamkos was hyped but I think he has actually exceeded expectations to date.
Hall and Tavares had very similar hype and after watching Hall play center I can no longer say Taveres is better just based on position.
RNH is the ultimate play maker with absurd hockey IQ and defensive awareness. Much different skill sets but clear cut number one in his draft year with a ton of his own hype. Could well be better than all the above mentioned at the end of the day.
Yakapov is forgotten in all this talk but many people have said he could well be the best of all the above mentioned as well.
MacKinnon is one of the least hyped number one picks to come along in awhile with many teams having him not being a true number one at all. The thing that makes MacKinnon scarey is how young he is tho.

He didn't score 30 goals and 40 assists, his second year, but I'll ignore that.
So..because Tavares actually turned out into what his potential was, it was a good idea to give him that extension his second year in, but because we don't know if Landeskog, RNH, etc won't hit their potential, it was a horrible idea to give them these?

How was he better? He certainly didn't put up better numbers... His sh1ttier plus minus is an attractive feature as well. You Tavares lovers are brainwashed... He is no better than Hall, RNH, or Yakupov. Deal with it. |

Again, I meant McDavid. Stamkos was absurdly hyped, I think your memory is off there. He was the clear #1 long before the draft. Hall and Tavares had moderate hype, also clear #1s in their draft year.
Mybe it was Tampa's hype, but Stamkos was all over the place. |

I think you're overrating RNH on this one. Its fairly safe to say that RNH is going to be unreal in the very near future but JT didn't get nominated for the Hart for no reason |

So you're allowed to round up with RNH, but if I do it then I get called out?
RNH second season: 40 games. 4 goals, 20 assists.
Tavares second season: 79 games. 29 goals, 38 assists.
Ya, you're right. Same thing.

Yeah he plays in the east, same reason RNH dosent get the Calder, or yak dosent get the calder, or how the lady bing is giving to a Dmen, when that never happens. Ebs gets snubbed for that. The Oilers play up in north in the far west where no one cares. Only way that changes is when these kids live up to the hype otherwise it never will. |
