He broke all of the scoring records in junior coming up. Youngest player to be allowed in the OHL. Are you kidding me? ou realy don't know what you're talking about.
- Cptmjl

JT broke Gretzkys record in juniors. Scouts had him out to be better than Crosby and he still may be. I remember hearing about him a few years before he was drafted. Fans were hoping to win the lottery that year before we even knew we would take last place.

Really? Where did you hear this? Must have been a secret to the rest of the league and humanity since we knew the end bfr the season before last we were moving to Brooklyn into the Barclay's center and a 25 yr lease. I know we are on hockeybuzz but come on

He was without a doubt a stud and hugely touted before his draft year.
But pre draft there were some question marks about his skating and some scouts saying theyd take hedman or duchene.
Not a slight against him in the least, but trying to look back, id have probably taken both of stamkos and mackinnon ahead of him.

Just sayin

I actually just edited that post stating exactly what you just did . JT and overrated shouldn't ever be used in the same sentence. Anyone who says it never saw the guy play. All of these young Oilers are great players themselves. I'll never debate that but to call JT overrated is laughable. In fact I'll say he's underrated if anything.

This is just it. I think the years before he was drafted he was the next 'it' kid.
But his draft year i think a few people closed the gap and a few question marks arose.

He was still the number 1 without a doubt, but i dont think it was as much of a slam dunk as it was at an earlier stage

Stamkos is better than jt. And who's to say mackinnon wont be?
Far from unreasonable to suggest that.

Anything else is just pure homer to use the future as fact

Not being a homer but I wouldn't. Stamkos is incredible. Don't get me wrong. I've watched enough of Mackinnon to say no facking way. Every projected first overall gets his game picked apart. His skating was his knock you are correct but the guy is now incredible. I have a hard time remembering another player who wanted to win more that Tavares and I've been watching hockey since the seventies.

Much more reasonable post than your islanders counterpart that lives in homer land.

Time will tell on mackinnon, but the rest of your post i can get on board with. There's a few guys i can think of that hate to lose with a passion...but as far as jt, ill take ur word for it

Read my post again. What are you talking about? Name 1 west coast bias thing i said.

I believe stamkos is better. He plays on the east coast.
I believe mackinnon could turn out to be be better. Which only time will tell and isnt completely out of the realm of possibility. There was no bias

You're blinding yourself into a debate that isnt occuring

A better scorer? Maybe.
Hall, getzlaf and kane might have something to say about that. Just like they did last year.
All around? No chance hes better than toews. Who incidentally also outscored him.

Mentioning JT and Gretzky in the same sentence is beyond words.

JT isn't close to Crosby.

JT is a stud and I would kill to have him as an oiler but let's take it easy on the comparison.

Guys on here are talking about RNH contract like it's coming out of our pockets. We have an owner that couldn't spend all his money if he lit it on fire. The cap is going no where but up, in 2-3 years 6mil a year for any 1st line center will be the norm never mind a 1st overall that in my opinion will be in the upper end of league scoring.

Anyone who says it's a gamble is 100% correct.

But anyone who cant see the multitude of reasons for giving it and the benefits is equally as blind.

As overall players, Getzlaf brings two-way acumen, physicality, a big body, leadership, AND PPG scoring so that one isn't very close. Hall brings the same level of offense with a good deal more speed. However, JT plays C consistently, so we'll call that one even (for now). Kane is an offensive demon. He both outscored and outperformed JT last season. Offensively, Kane has the edge, but JT brings a stronger two-way game I'll give JT the edge.

Next years cap should be close to 71m, and 80m in 2-3 years, there's lots of wiggle room, just not this year.
- BigDre

The cap will not be anywhere near 71 next year or 80 in 2 years. I bet it doesn't change or goes up very slightly next year. Both sides have admitted this years is artificially set higher than it should be because it was part of the CBA. If it were on actual 50/50 split it would be around 60 mill. No way it goes up 10 mill in one year.
