Lowe has nothing to do with this...
I think you should take a look around the league and look at what young players are going for these days... Like I said in my post, this is not a unique situation. - laughs2907
if u look around the league they are getting bridge contracts or signing longterm at 4-4.5mil a year

What needs do the Oilers have versus Leafs? I don't think you're up to date on what the Oilers have right now. - laughs2907
oh i am... u are paying a 4th line center 3 mil to play on ur third line.... other then ferrence and smid.. ur defence is suspect.... ur relying on two russians to hold together ur defense. |

Ok, one more time, I didn't sign the Clarkson contract. In fact, I don't sign any Leafs contracts. Just because the Leafs overpay a player here and there, that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to have opinions about other teams. When did you guys get so (frank)ing sensitive? I didn't say anything bad about RNH, I didn't even say he wasn't worth $6M, maybe he is. All I said is that they could have waited another couple years before they gave him big money. If that's the worst thing that gets said in Oilers blogs then you guys have it pretty good. - Jeffmt
You're suggesting a bridge contract, and I'm not sure you understand the major con involved in doing something like that... Especially when you're dealing with a 1st overall pick. It would only hurt out cap situation 2 years from now, when he asks for more than 6 million per... Wait and see what happens with Subban. |

Its a low risk, high reward investment. The chances that RNH plays above the level of this contract (let alone WAY above it), are much greater than him not living up to it. The main thing people here are failing to grasp was how good he really was this past season. They look at the point totals and assume that they know what happened, but it's not even close to the real picture. - Oilklok
That's a very subjective statement with absolutely no basis in fact. You have faith...I'm very happy for you.
BTW...42m is a TON of risk.

um... what?
Eberle scored 34 goals his 2nd year, Hall 27 (in 61 gp) and Hall had 22 in 65 gp as a rookie.
RNH scored 4 goals last year. sure he had a pile of assists as a rookie, but let's not pretend RNH is the reason Eberle scored 34...
He may very well earn this contract, but he certainly hasn't yet - Big_Lightnin
Who did Hall and Ebs play with between them over the last two wicked seasons of theirs?
Nuge baby. He's the sh!t, and all the haters don't ever watch him play, so who cares what they think. |

Nuge Hall and Yak all better than JT. Shouldn't the Oilers be cup contenders? Hell they should be a dynasty by now. |

Sure it is based on fact. It's based on his current performance thus far, and being realistic, not pessimistic or overly optimistic. The points that he has put up so far, the level of his defensive play, similar contracts in the league, and even draft pedigree are more than enough to defend this contract factually for such a young player. It would actually be silly to bet against him if you consider all of these things.
Feel free to disagree, but i think you are being pessimistic, or just don't know this player. |

4-4.5?
Stastny signed 5 years at 6.6 million per...
Landeskog signed 7 years at 5.6 million per year
Seguin signed 6 years 5.75 million per
Doughty signed 8 years 7 million per
E. Kane signed 5 years at 5.25 million per
P. Kane signed 5 years at 6.3 million per
Towes signed 5 years at 6.3 million per
Skinner signed 6 years at 5.725 million per
Just a few comparables off the top of my head.
And bridge contracts are potential cap hell. |

the problem that oilers fans have is that the htink cause they are #1 over pick that they are the same caliber as sid and stamkoes ... these players challenged for the hart trophy and rocket richard throphy during their ELC. |

Hope not... I originally thought that as well, but it's clear that our GMs actually run the show. Complete difference in the way things were done when Tambs was here versus now that MacT is here... |

So lets say they did a bridge deal around 3 mil per for the next two years, saving the team $6 mil in the process. How much will they save if RNH has two good seasons and ends up getting close to $8mil per year for 7 years because the cap went up and comparables are signing for that amount? That's $62 mil over 9 years where as the current deal is only 42 over 6 years. This way they are saving $20 mil and 3 years. |

Lupul - 1.02 points/game after 2012. Toews - .97
Lupul - 1.12 points/game after 2013. Toews - 1.02
Lupul >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Toews - AdamFrench
How is that even a good comparison? Lupul is 4 years older than Toews. Toews is way better defensively and is still getting better. Lupul has hit his prime and is going to start declining in production in the next few years. |
