Handing out this type of money to a kid who is coming off a 4 goal season and has played 100 games in the NHL is ridiculous. - iknowbest
Personally I hate these deals, but it doesn't matter because it's how the NHL operates now. Guys are getting screwed when they are older so they are making sure they get these deals earlier now. As Barrie Dunn would say 'it's the way she goes' |

Tavares hype hype hype
Rnh has similar numbers. Hall actually has better numbers thus far.
"Psshh whatever. Tavares is wayyy better than either of em" - hugefemale dog77
go look at my post. RNH does NOT have similar numbers. Even if you project his numbers at double for the shortened season that's 8 goals. A little shy of 29.

folding? you need to get your facts straight. There was, at no time, ever, a situation the Isles were going to fold.
and ps:
John Tavares first 2 years:
2009-10 New York Islanders NHL 82 24 30 54 22 -14 -- -- -- -- --
2010-11 New York Islanders NHL 79 29 38 67 53 -16 -- -- -- -- --
RNH
2011-12 Edmonton Oilers NHL 62 18 34 52 16 -2 -- -- -- -- --
2012-13 Oklahoma City Barons AHL 19 8 12 20 6 7 -- -- -- -- --
2012-13 Edmonton Oilers NHL 40 4 20 24 8 3 -- -- -- -- --
then consider linemates.
RNH makes MORE than Tavares.
If RNH is nominated for the Hart in 2 years you can compare them. This is way too much money for a guy who hasn't proven himself yet.
Hall, sure, he deserves it. Eberle as well. RNH? Good player, need more history to work from. A 2 year deal at 4 per would have been a lot more reasonable - Isles_since_6
Yes, NYI are the prime of the prime, have all the money in world.

I was joking. This was our first blog with outsiders commenting and I thought you were hiding behind the tree waiting for the dust to settle. I like trolls. - Lahey
Nobody is trolling here. As far as I can tell this is a thread about the Oilers signing RNH to a big contract. Some people like it, others don't. I don't like it cause it sends a message to any kid who has a good rookie season that they are suddenly worth a huge contract. |

I ripped on them long and hard over Redden, but that was warranted. When a guy talks about getting more year and more money than any one else was close to offering and then says at the end they offered a NTC, then ya it deserves ripping. |

The question is he significantly better than JT was after his second year? Keep in mind, RNH has shoulder problems...yet they still put up the same PPG. - Blackstrom2
He's not. Tavares is criminally overrated... |

Yes, but why wasn't 5.5 mil/yr considered way too much for a guy who had yet to prove anything?
If RNH's contract was 5.5 mil/yr, would all of you even be arguing this? I really don't see how anyone can say this is a bad contract. I don't think he is going to Daigle. |

That's another thing I don't understand. Why not just wait to see how this season goes? If he puts together another solid year then pay him the $6 million per. What if he's below average again? Doesn't make a lot of sense. |

Neither did Colorado with Landeskog. Why did Carolina do it with Skinner? Winnipeg with kane? Amongst others. Like it or not this is how things are going with the new CBA. Wait til Subban gets paid, Gm's will really be thinking twice about those bridge deals.
You have to remember GM's don't care about long-term implications, a lot of them will be dead before the contracts they hand out expire.
Players also lost there right to 55 year deals so now they are really going for all in as soon as possible. |

not really because he won't have a huge year without Taylor Hall having a huge year along with him, in that case they wouldn't give him more than Hall anyway |
