Joe Morrow lasted all of 4 months with Dallas.

Still didn't like the deal, but yes, In retrospect it proves that Morrow's stock was dropping. I'm sure Sid and Geno are sick about it.

I don't have a problem with that deal, I didn't at the time. Just look at the logjam of prospect defensemen we have now. Penguins still won't be able to give all of them an honest look at the big club.

As long as the GM is trading from a position of strength, the trade can fail and the fallout won't be bad.

I had watched a lot of Dallas (mainly to watch Jagr) and I rarely saw Brendan Morrow make a difference. He didn't remotely resemble the player of a few years ago. I just couldn't see giving up a prospect for that. Water under the bridge.

Your point is taken about too many defensemen. That's why it's hard to understand them clinging to Niskanen.

And I just saw that Ben Hanowski was assigned to Calgary's AHL camp, and besides what Joe Morrow becomes, he was the most NHL-ready prospect that we gave up. I'm sure Crosby is losing sleep over that deal.

The only thing I need to know is who gave us a better chance at the Stanley Cup last season. Brendan Morrow and Jarome Iginla or Joe Morrow, Ben Hanowski and Kenneth Agostino?

We've got a weird bunch of fans in here at times. We have a group that demands that the team wins every game and that they are always competing for the cup, but would rather have their favorite prospects on the team than someone who makes the team better.

Look I had invested in Joe Morrow and hope he succeeds more than most Penguins fans, he's from a town that is about a two hour drive away from here, I went to Oil King/Winterhawks games just to watch Joe Morrow. Seeing him get traded sucked, but I understand that Shero traded from a position of strength to improve what was viewed by him, pundits and us as a weakness.

Well said
*claps*

Also...with Dumoulin, Despres, Maatta, Harrington, Pouliot, Samuelson, Ruopp, Bortuzzo, etc are we really that bad off?

Hell no.

It was a Flyer fan trying to take a dig at the Pens about "all the assets" we gave up to get swept. He was appropriately mocked.

However there was a rumor going around that Sid demanded a trade when the Pens traded their 1st round pick.

Wait, I thought your fourth line center was already the next Ron Francis?

Also, Sean Couturier is the next Mario Gretzky. Fifty goals in fifteen games this season, book it.

Ready for another season of hate and blood feud, sir?

Shero did nothing last yr at the DL and got hosed for it. This yr he went deep and same result. He probaly should have stopped at Morrow/Murray but, Iginla was there so he went for it.

If they brought Iginla in, they obvioiusly felt there was a hole on the wing....if thats the case why did they re up Duper?

Scouting is a tough job. Morrow is on 3 teams in 6 months, I guarantee the majority of Pens fans never heard of Duper or Kunitz, and even Neal, but they have been outstanding pick ups. I wouldn't necessarly say the Pens gave up too mcuh for the the players Shero brought in.

Yeah, the result always dictates how good the GM's decisions were. If the Pens won the Cup or made it deep into the finals, Shero is a genius for pulling off those trades. They lost badly in the conference finals, so he made bad decisions.

Look at 2008, if the Pens don't make the finals, he would have gotten killed for the Hossa trade. How the pieces turned on years later makes it a good trade regardless, but at the time, it was basically a split decision if they gave up too much in the deal.

Even if the Pens didnt make the finals in 08, all things considered it was worth it just for Duper.....Thronburn was a 3/4 liner, Esposito never played in a NHL game, and the 1st rnder they used never made it and had a criminal on ice incident.....But the Thrash GM was pretty awful himself.

Let's hope he is a better talent elevator when he's helping pick the Team USA roster for Sochi, then he was in Atlanta.

Three of the top four defensemen are set in stone according to Waddell:

Ryan Whitney, Alex Goligoski, and Jack Johnson.

Yeah, Im not a huge Duper fan, Ill give him this season though.....but Im sure Iginla was not too pleased with with riding shotgun to the rest of the team after hes been a superstar his entire career.

I have no idea why you aren't a huge Duper fan. The guy continues to produce when people continue to be skeptical.

Between Waddell and Sexton we have the market cornered in failed Southeast Division GMs.

I would rather have liked Shero bring in a long term answer for Morrow, than an aging veteran as a rental. That is my only dislike about the deal. That said, it was obvious to be Joe Morrow's shine was fading with Penguin brass.

Yeah but then it isn't Joe Morrow. It's somebody like Olli Maatta or Beau Bennett.
