For them they are banking his shoulder will hold up

I think this is over-payment. It will be at least 3 years before he is performing at a 6 million a year pace. Then another 2-3 years where he is performing at about 6 million pace. Only 1-2 years of value there for Edmonton IMO.

I don't understand how scenario A is false, then. I'm not saying they can bank LTIR to get that player in that scenario. He would fit snuggly in the LTIR exception, no? The prorated cap cost would fit with the remaining LTIR, right?

I went back and re-read it. I was wrong. Scenario A is true. I misread it. Apologies.

And he will get it for the first 3-4 seasons before the salary starts to drop to make it closer to a 5.75 million cap hit.

Are you talking about Lundqvist?

He is going to be 33 his first contract year. a 7 year contract will carry him until he is 40. Think Pronger.... Pronger was one of the top defenseman when the Flyers signed him long term, so Why isn't his Cap hit so high? Because its front loaded and streched out. Because the player knows he wont be the best player in 7 years and no team will be willing to pay him more. Now the structure cant be as extreme as prongers was, but his cap hit wont be that bad because it will be for a long time. You just have to be willing to take a chance that he will give you at least a couple good years before he drops off too much.
- youarewrong

There are Cap variance rules that are new for the current CBA.

Giroux's new deal is for a long time. The maximum term allowed under the CBA. The cap hit is 8.275

Anybody have any insight into how the Flyers are allowed to place MAB on Waivers?

If I'm reading that right, MAB has remained on the roster for more then 30 days. Another CBA brain twister!

I didn't bother to try and figure it out, I'm more interested in the OHL season opening tonight.

Starting out watching a game with at least 3 highly ranked ISS players and another whom would probably be in the next tier.

FWIW My 2 cents on a few topics

Retired numbers/Ashbee: I think those of you who are too young to remember Ashbee may be selling him a bit short. Would his # be retired if he hadnt died tragically? Probably not. But he was a true heart and soul player, Lappy would be a good comparison, who played through tremendous pain and he was the best dman on the club during the early Bullies era. Ashbee was the conscience of that Bullies team and without his grit and leadership, Imnot sure if they would have been the same

McNabb: To me, a player should be truly great to have his number retired. For the Eagles that would be playersvlike Chuck Bednarik or Reggie White. McNabb was very good, but I don't consider him a great player nor do I think his # should be retired.

Flyers D: by all means if they can get cap compliant and get Pronger onto LTIR without moving Mez or Grossmann than they should keep them both for now. Even if the D stays relatively healthy this year, some other team won't and thats the time to make a move: when the OTHER team is desperate.

And finally: as of today I have lost over 50lbs and my waist has gone from 43" to 36"!! I am one happy puppy!!!

Much ado about nothing with the Morin signing yesterday. Boom sent down right away. Not exactly anything none of us saw coming. Most of us were pretty leery on that selection, with the likes of one Mr. Ryan Pulock on the board, but Big Boy Sam has impressed thus far. Maybe Prongs and the rest of the management were on to something for once..... Because you know- the Flyers are the worst drafters ever

My Laughton opinion is that he makes the team. I believe there was a reason he stuck around for the full tryout last year. Just a hunch is that he lands that 4th line C role. Sending him back to Juniors at this point would really only benefit his offensive game. It's really a tough call and like I said- I'm just going by gut reaction. Either way, I don't have a problem with the prospect of sending him back down to Oshawa for a final season.

Mez has pleasantly surprised thus far. If he could play even at 2/3rds of his Ashbee Winning season, it'd be a nice breath of fresh air out there on the blueline.

Physio exam tomorrow guys I was up til 5 am studying last night and plan on sleeping for like 9 hours tonight. Last few hours of studying and Red Bull and then it's all she wrote. Good thoughts please
