He will be getting a 7 year deal wherever he goes or stays. Its an under 35 deal, so he will be able to retire, but he wont be cheap to anyone. I'm betting on 5.75 million for 7 years, mostly front loaded.

He's going to want $8m a year.

I don't buy into the notion that a young, pro-ready forward -- defensemen and goalies are a somewhat different story -- can't develop if he's playing limited minutes in the NHL rather than big minutes on a junior team against lower-grade competition. Is it better to be practicing daily with and against the likes of Claude Giroux, Vincent Lecavalier and Sean Couturier or averaging over a point-per game in game action against OHL-grade competition?

I'd much rather for a young player to do just that - play.

Would he learn the nuances of the pro game by practicing daily against elite pro players? Perhaps. But how often and long does the team actually practice during the season? And would practicing an hour a day rather than playing a full schedule in every situation, while growing stronger, gaining confidence and developing skills, really benefit him more?

And truth be told, Laughton had a very nice season last year, but he did not tear it up by anybody's definition. He can still benefit from some seasoning.

Though I see and understand both sides of the discussion here, I'm more for letting a player develop slowly rather that rushing him.

I don't know that Laughton needs to "develop" more. He has things he can work on for sure, but so do Claude Giroux and Steven Stamkos. I think he would just have to work on his game, which he could do in either the NHL or OHL. As far as developing though, I don't think he'd be overwhelmed in the NHL.
Basically, I'm trying to point out the difference between "developing" and "improving your game." Not sure I came even close to that.

An expansion team offered him a contract in the KHL and that's the last I heard. I'm not really sure what he's doing. Petting his dog and looking at the star from his deck next to his fire pit he lit with dollar bills.

Bryz is investing all his money in the Russian mob. He wants much more money.

Bryz's life goals.

1. Kill all Bear in Woods.
2. Go to space.
3. Play goal for Flyers

And he will get it for the first 3-4 seasons before the salary starts to drop to make it closer to a 5.75 million cap hit.

How, exactly, did they (frank) up the Gagne thing? They decided not to bring him back, hardly a mess up.

I have been to probably 25 Giants/Eagles games, Randall Cunningham always worried me more than Mcnabb ever did.

Just because someone is the best a franchise has ever had doesn't mean you retire his number.

well they were in talks with him all summer apparently saying they wanted him back then at the last minute changed direction... sort of a slap in the face to gagne...but business is business

Not to wade into any argument over football but he is the leader in almost every category in Eagles history.

McNabb was the most"successful", Cunningham was the most "Talented". I think if Randle was coached by Reid and held accountable, unlike Buddy just telling him to go out and make plays, the Eagles would have won at least 2 Super Bowls

Perhaps Gagne wanted to much money...I think the whole "Gagne was willing to take a paycut" stuff was oversold, anyhow.

If that's the case, that Gagne simply wasn't willing to drop his asking price to a level the Flyers agreed with, is it really a slap in the face? Or is a declining veteran who is injury prone trying too hard to milk every penny out of his carcass?

The Eagles would have won the 200(4?) Super Bowl is they'd let Garcia be QB and kept Owens out.
At least that's what several coworkers have told me.

Than how did we finish so far behind them in points when they are in the West and we are playing in the weaker East?

I don't know that we do.

- mayorofangrytown

That's the funny thing about team sports. You can have talent (as the Flyers do), but if you don't play as a team, you don't get the results. Columbus may not have more individual talent than the Flyers do, but they played better overall as a team.

He is going to be 33 his first contract year. a 7 year contract will carry him until he is 40. Think Pronger.... Pronger was one of the top defenseman when the Flyers signed him long term, so Why isn't his Cap hit so high? Because its front loaded and streched out. Because the player knows he wont be the best player in 7 years and no team will be willing to pay him more. Now the structure cant be as extreme as prongers was, but his cap hit wont be that bad because it will be for a long time. You just have to be willing to take a chance that he will give you at least a couple good years before he drops off too much.
