It will be when you think about all the raises your giving players next season. Not to mention that you really will need to get a number 1 defenseman somehow and they aren't cheap. I mean once Timonen retires, who is number 1? Coburn? You really cant even call Timonen a number 1 at this point of his career.
- youarewrong

Yeah, but if Mason has a Vezina level season, it means the Flyers will have a great year.

He will turn 32 during the season. I would be a little concerned signing him to a deal of more than 5 years.
- PLindbergh31

He will be getting a 7 year deal wherever he goes or stays. Its an under 35 deal, so he will be able to retire, but he wont be cheap to anyone. I'm betting on 5.75 million for 7 years, mostly front loaded.

You shouldn't even mention "#1 defenseman" on this thread. Only 4 or 5 of them exist even though there are 30 teams. It demoralizes the more logical people who post here.

That's not a terrible deal for a team to sign Lundqvist to. Hell the Flyers gave a 9 year 50+ million dollar deal to a clown that's out of the League.

Tell that to the non playoff team in Columbus.

This is bullpoop. All you need to do is offer Giroux, Couturier, and 2 1st round picks and Shea Weber is ours.

I'm not sure 'mostly frontloaded' is possible, with the variance rules in the new CBA.

He can't even get on a decent KHL team.

Well to be fair, the Flyers have more talent than the Jackets do.

That's so a year ago. He's $110,000,000 player. You'll need to up your game.

Than how did we finish so far behind them in points when they are in the West and we are playing in the weaker East?

I don't know that we do.

Okay. Add 3 more 1st round picks and retain 85% of Giroux's salary.
Come on man, easy.

Bobrovsky stole a ton of points. I was watching a fair amount of their games, and they were routinely outplayed and Bobrovsky looked like the second coming of Ken Dryden.

He will be welcomed with open arms at the 2033 Winter classic Alumni game. Maybe he might actually get in the game!

I believe that we do have better talent right now. Bob played out of his mind last season. Can he do it again? I hope so. But I'm not expecting the same level out of him. I do think their new GM is gonna seriously turn them around though and they are only going to get better. But no I don't think they have the same level of talent right now. This season. 2013 - 2014. Should I go on?

An expansion team offered him a contract in the KHL and that's the last I heard. I'm not really sure what he's doing. Petting his dog and looking at the star from his deck next to his fire pit he lit with dollar bills.

I don't buy into the notion that a young, pro-ready forward -- defensemen and goalies are a somewhat different story -- can't develop if he's playing limited minutes in the NHL rather than big minutes on a junior team against lower-grade competition. Is it better to be practicing daily with and against the likes of Claude Giroux, Vincent Lecavalier and Sean Couturier or averaging over a point-per game in game action against OHL-grade competition?

I'd much rather for a young player to do just that - play.

Would he learn the nuances of the pro game by practicing daily against elite pro players? Perhaps. But how often and long does the team actually practice during the season? And would practicing an hour a day rather than playing a full schedule in every situation, while growing stronger, gaining confidence and developing skills, really benefit him more?

And truth be told, Laughton had a very nice season last year, but he did not tear it up by anybody's definition. He can still benefit from some seasoning.

Though I see and understand both sides of the discussion here, I'm more for letting a player develop slowly rather that rushing him.

That's the thing, he doesn't have to do a damn thing. Uncle Edzo will be supporting him for life.

Why the hell are the Eagles retiring Mcnabb's number tonight? Is this serious?
