not hodgson. not yet. he was an up and coming young player in vancouver, and even though he was just their third best center, they chose to move him. there were whispers about an overbearing father and questions of toughness. he has a history of being a captain in juniors, and he certainly has talent, but i would give it a few years before i gave him a C. i was hoping foligno would be more consistent. he has flashes where does everything right- crashes the net, bangs in the corner and on the boards, uses his size to protect the puck, and scores the occasional goal. get foligno to bring that every night and you have a very reasonable captain that can lead by example. of course if he chooses to not bring it every night, then you have drew stafford. those are the younger guys that i would consider, after that you have vanek and ott who are both potentially gone in 7 months. not much after that except erhoff. erhoff is our best defenseman, i just dont see him as a captain.

legitimate 40 goal scorers are hard to find. he has never had the benefit of playing with a number one center, and god love him, he still gets his. but facts are facts; its a fact that its going to cost us exactly what you said to extend him, and its a fact that production drops for goal scorers after 30 (teemu selanne being possibly the only exception to the rule). vanek takes a beating in front of the net. im hoping we can keep him in one piece and move him at the deadline for a first and a couple top prospects.
