I'm curious, what sounds are you referring to? Most of the young guys have been great so far. Girgensons and Larssons both look good, Pysyk is solid as usual and McNabb has played well from what I've heard, ditto Zadorov.

None of these guys were ever supposed to be superstars, none of them except Ristolainen were drafted in the top 10. It usually takes these kinds of players anywhere between 2-4 years to become NHL regulars. I'd say a couple of them are ahead of schedule.

Obviously none of them should be starting with the sabres but it's likely that a couple of them become regulars at the very latest by trade deadline.

i don't think anyone is really surprised they are both still on the team.. i figured at least one of them would still be here.. i did not expect both though.. either way you are not basing this on any sort of real knowledge though, just your gut (or maybe a little lower) feeling?

Well yea, not too many people wanted that scenario to play out. I was hoping at least one would be gone just as re-assurance that they are committed to a full rebuild. There's a part of me that still thinks they want to re-sign Vanek and Miller and then sign a couple mediocre free agents to go for 8th a la Calgary.

By the way, my negativism is rooted in my belief that the Sabres made the absolute wrong choices in the GM and coach this offseason. To believe that a GM who has had 13 years or so to build a winning team can all of a sudden build a stanley cup team is like believing there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow...... As far as the coach.... Words need not be said...

sign vanek (if you can).. trade miller.. miller is no longer worth the big dollar he is going to want
