He's not an NHL player.

Ristolainen supposedly looked pretty good in the first two preseason games, so I don't think last night killed his chances of making the club from the outset. I still need to see more. If the kid's good enough to play in the NHL, he should play in the NHL. Sending him to Rochester because simply that's what is done with most rookies is stupid.

McNabb & Pysyk need to be paired here in buffalo!
I would MUCH rather see McNabb with him that Tallinder
And I think Ristolainen should start the year in Rochester
Even though he's prob "NHL-ready" it won't hurt him to spend some time in the AHL and get used to the angles from the smaller rink size
Plus, we are rebuilding & there's no reason to rush him up here

One thing I'll always appreciate is the effort he gave night in & night out... If all our players gave that kind of effort we'd have won a lot more games

Kinda like last year.

The NHL/CHL need to change their agreement for this reason.

1-2 players per organization per year that can be exempt from the rule.


It gives certain players the best chance to succeed in the NHL, and honestly that's what matters for the organization that drafts them.

Giving him some time down there to better adjust won't hurt his development IMO, and I don't see a reason he needs to be on the Sabres right away... ESP w all the defensemen we have

I really don't see much point to Tallinder on the roster

If the smaller ice surface is giving him problems, then I would agree. Send him to Rochester. However, if he seems to be adjusting well enough already, then he should be here. I refuse to believe that every player that comes over from Europe can't adapt to the smaller ice surface immediately. I am not saying with absolute certainty that he should be in the AHL or the NHL. What I am saying is that I hope the Sabres make the decision based on his talent rather than a numbers game or an "earn your stripes" mentality.
