i think we could see a prolonged holdout. generally, these situations involve guys coming off their ELCs. i've maintained all along that given Franson's age and pro/NHL service, this is way different than what we as fans are used to. if the Leafs sticking point is 2 years vs 1 year, i don't see them caving that easily. similarly, from everything we're hearing from Franson's side, don't see him caving so soon either. this seems like a true stalemate.

as for the leafs.. if they stumble out of the gate there is a coach and a GM whose heads would be on a platter by new ownership if they dont at least compete for a post season spot... i'd even go so far as to say heads would roll if they miss the post season.

thats why i think it wont go beyond ten games....still.. rough spot for franson to put himself in either way.. if the leafs do well without him he will have exactly zero leverage and his stock will fall. if they dont, and the leafs cave, franson will be looked upon as the guy who will turn everything around.. and if this scenario plays out and he doesnt make a difference.. the toronto media will eat him alive.

Leafs should just sign him to the 1 year, he's taking less than he's worth so they can suck up the 1 yr and negotiate again in Jan/Feb if they know what the cap is going to be...if not and they don't want him - EASILY TRADED.
