Not to jump in here, but I'd roughly agree here. To me, Nick Cousins has looked the better of the two, at least so far.
- Flyers_V88

He has looked very good. I still think Laughton's overall game is superior to his, but Cousins has looked better than advertised for sure.

How does Sammy Morin fit into the PK plans this year?

Again: We couldn't get Andreas Nodl out of here fast enough, but at one time, I bet every single person on this board thought he was going to be a player.

Think about it.

If only he could put the puck in the net...aaaa Nodl

Which games are those?
- jmatchett383

No, I mean "watched enough games, as a whole."

I've only seen Scott Laughton play seven games, as I've said. But I also didn't see anything in those seven games to make me believe that he's more ready, just because he's defensively responsible.

There are a lot of players who are defensively responsible, is what I'm saying.

I think the questions about Akeson and Cousins are their size and defensive ability. Just about everyone agrees that they have the offensive talent to play in the NHL.

If they really are NHL players, they should tear up the AHL if they get sent back down.

Oh, for God's sake -- all first-round picks have tools. Pavel Brendl had tools. Eric Chouinard had tools.

We'll see if Scott Laughton's tools that he's shown in his junior career mean a damn thing in the NHL -- I've simply watched enough games to be honest enough to say that I haven't seen Scott Laughton do anything well enough for me to know that he's going to make it.

I want him to make it, because he's a Flyer.

- AllInForFlyers

Sure Laughton could be a total bust, but it's hard to consider that when almost every member of Flyers brass and almost every Flyers related writer/blogger/analyst all agree Laughton has a legitimate shot to make the team and has a legitimate shot to be a great two way player (maybe I'm wrong about that).

I can't say you're wrong, but you just disagree with like almost everyone

Okay. So, you think Laughton looks awful. In your expert opinion, what should the Flyers plans be for him going forward, this year and beyond?

the problem is that when Cousins or Akeson hit a lull offensively they have zero worth two the team (until they further develop their defensive ability)... Laughton on the other hand isnt going to be looked to for an offensive addition to the team, but rather a solid two way contributor.

Come on, man -- seriously? Seriously? Is this where we are now?

Just because I say the 19-year-old -- NINETEEN YEARS OLD -- might not be ready to play in the NHL, that's this crazy notion now? And I'm saying he looks awful?

Wow. Amazingly enough, I'm going to bet that of all the people on this board, I won't be the one ripping the 19 year old at year's end if he doesn't get those 11 goals like Mike Richards did as a rookie, or whatever, because clearly, not expecting much from a 19 year old who hasn't played above the fourth line or scored a professional point in any form whatsoever is the stupidest thing ever.

No. People should be able to express their opinions. You can NOT argue the fact that he would like to just "see" what he looks like on the top line. In a different environment, a less confrontational answer could be: "I don't think that would work"... instead of making the person feel like an idiot and defend his thoughts.

I feel as though this board is policed for opinions that can only make sense for certain people, otherwise you dare not post in this board.

There is not much "light" talk. No off the wall ideas may be presented unless they are clearly stated as a joke. You must fact check before expressing a dislike for someone/player, otherwise you should NOT dislike that person, and you're an idiot. Before you express that you like someone, you must make sure they have appropriate reasons for said satisfaction of that player.

Once the ball is rolling, like in high school, others join in on the fun of feeling superior, as though their thoughts and opinions meet the criteria for correct thoughts and opinions on this board.

Its all a very interesting thing to observe.

No, really. I'm serious. I want to know what you think the organization should do with Laughton going forwards for the next, let's say, 2 years.

Is this based on some inside source, or another astounding piece of analysis (like "His solid defensive play vanished with a minus-8 rating...")?

Really?

Wow. I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

I thought he did a bunch of things last night that made me see why he was sought after, but I didn't come away thinking that he needed to make the team this year.
