There's a theory that they outlawed jersey tucking this year as a precursor to selling ad space.

Either way, stupid rule.

Yea there aren't lots and lots of injuries, but when they do happen on these icing plays, they're brutal/career threatening/ending. There are even injuries on plays where the Dman is pretty much a clear cut winner, they aren't all necessarily during neck and neck races. I have no problem if they institute the rule
- eayost

There are a lot more injuries on plays not involving icing. Also, hybrid icing doesn't come into play when there are 2 players racing head-to-head into the boards.

I always liked Gagne's tucked in Jersey and G's half tuck. If I were an NHL player, I would go with the half-tuck.

NHL says no tuck at all, anymore.

Agreed. It was a signature Gretzky look during his entire career. Who cares?

That one's gone, too...I disagree with the NHL's version, but agree with football's.

Good. Ovechkin looked stupid with his back pad flapping about.

We covered removing the helmet before fighting last night...goalie pads are smaller and the nets are slightly different than in years past

Agreed on Maughton and McGinn, they were just kinda there.
I think Schenn was probably the Flyers best defenseman all game long. Didn't belong on the PP though, and likely won't in the regular season.

- jmatchett383

I thought Grossman was Flyers best D last night. Schenn was caught way out of position at least two times, but Flyers weren't burned.

Oh I like the idea of removing a helmet before a fight. If you think about it, it would be a great way for guys like Rinaldo to avoid instigation. Instead of dropping the gloves first to provoke and get the penality, he can take his helmet off, and leave the gloves on untill.....

I think the idea was that if you get KO'd you still have the helmet on to protect your head from the ice.

So have we essentially concluded that Meszaros is the D the Flyers/Hurricanes are discussing pending health and pre-season performance?

Depends on who you ask.
Mez is the most likely
Some think it's Grossmann
And Coburn's name isn't dieing down either

Agreed. Eklund might as well just called him out by name.

I'm sure the powers to be in the NHL saw the payout the NFL made to it's alumni and figured that they needed to institute SOMETHING to try to prevent head injuries.

The "gentlemanly duel" aspect of removing the buckets is nice and all but the notion of smacking your head against the ice has long ranging ramifications.

And I'm guessing if it has the side effect that there are fewer fights because guys can't remove their helmets, I'm sure the powers that be would be fine with that outcome too.

Yeah, because I look at Carolina's cap, and I don't even think they could take on Mesz, unless they made room?

I really hope it's not Coburn... I know he had a down year, but it feels like the Flyers are almost willing to give him away just to become cap-compliant. Personally, I would like to see Mesz go only because we just don't need him at that price right now.
