B Schenn?

He's a winger now, my friend.

If they think Meszaros is healthy, I'd rather trade Grossmann, and keep Gustafsson in the top 6.

Unfortunately, nobody knows if Meszaros can stay healthy, so that might not be a prudent idea.

- Jsaquella

That's also a reason for me to keep both; you never know when one will explode into a trillion pieces. Hope that they're not both out at the same time so you always have a 6 NHL-caliber defensemen.

I had a heart attack thinking you meant G. But you meant Cousins, HAHAHA
It's friggin Mon, don't scare me like that.

- FlyersGrace

Actually Laughton played the top line center role last night.

He looks pretty decent.. but I would like to see him get a full year in at the AHL level. He is the type of player that can really benefit from that time there.

Laughton looked pretty good to me. Had a few dandy set ups, but the thing that I pay attention to (and look for the most) is positioning. He is always in the right spots both offensively and defensively.

- jak521

Oh, he definitely should spend this year in the AHL. Just saying he looked better than I thought he would.

I wasn't too thrilled with Laughton. He looked okay. The best thing for him is that McGinn was pretty invisible.

I think Rinaldo painted a target on himself. He instigated and drew penalties all over the place.
- FlyersGrace

He was Rinaldo-ing for sure

I know he's projected as on, but I thought Schenn was playing C last night. My bad.

That's what I would do. Keep them all and rotate Gustafsson in on the third pair. If Meszaros holds up and Gustafsson plays well enough, you have trade bait.

Exactly. Come TDL, you can deal Mesazaros if you're not in the picture, or you can carry 7 healthy D into the playoffs.

I want to see Laughton more towards the end of the preseason. I want to see him in a role similar to what he's actually be playing this year.

Last night was basically an AHL game with a few NHL players sprinkled in.

Cousins was as well. At one point, he yanked a dude's chin strap off. Not sure what it was about, and I was hoping he wouldn't drop them, but it was sorta funny.

He played wing last night. He should play wing all season no matter what. I hate how the team has moved him around so much. Let him play wing and get used to it. He's played center his whole career.

HAHAHA
No way we have 7 healthy D by play-off time.
Any comments on the hybrid icing? It seemed really arbitrary. If it helps with injuries I'm all for it. But at the end of the game the linesman forgot and they only blew it dead when touched so they had to add time back onto the clock.

Well, whichever. The thing with Grossmann is he's signed past this year, while you'd have to re-up Meszaros. I want to see them not have to find another UFA D (unless they have 1-2 AHL players ready for a real shot).

I think they said something about them playing against each other in the OHL? It was a passing comment and I was off mixing a drink so I missed some of it.

I don't see it happening this year. There didn't seem to be much commitment to it from the referees! It's rare that players get injured on icing plays. Most injuries occur from blindside hits or shot blocking

Hybrid icing is horrible. It serves no purpose. It's supposed to eliminate injuries, so let's look at how it's implemented.

Scenario 1: The puck is iced and the defenseman has a clear-cut advantage to get to the puck first. Since there's no real competition for the puck, icing is called.
Scenario 2: The puck is iced and it's a dead heat between a defenseman and a forward trying to beat it out. Since it's up for grabs, hybrid icing is not called.

In scenario 1, whether there's hybrid icing or not, there will be no injury since 2 players won't go crashing into the boards. Only in scenario 2 would there be a possible injury, and hybrid icing doesn't eliminate that.

Further (gets up high on horse), I'd argue that more injuries occur on hits that DON'T involve a potential icing call. So why are we so concerned with eliminating a play where maybe 1-2 guys get injured a year when we can eliminate a ton of injuries by removing hitting altogether?

Haag and Morin will probably be arriving just as Grossmann's deal is expiring. They are pretty far away from playing for the Flyers.

Tickets on StubHub are like $4 for tonight... maybe Ill make the 25 minute trip to the First Un.. no Corest... Wach.. (frank) it.. the stadium.

I usually either give away my preseason games or I just go.

It's almost not worth the effort to sell them because you don't get anything back for them.
