Probably the 3rd line, the spot they wanted Cleary to fill
- Jsaquella

Makes sense. if he makes the team by out playing McGlinn and Laughton then the Flyers just gained another valuable asset. Not getting crazy yet, but they are so far better off than last year.

I considered writing /jk after my comment, but I figured you'd pick it up from the laughy face.

McGinn SO winner...I think. Flyers box score has it all out of order.
- jmatchett383

McGinn had the SO winner. Goalie was the Marlies goalie last year at end of season but the announcers said he started the season in the ECHL. Projected to be Marlies starter this year (they think).

Heeter was getting beaten like a rented mule until Carlyle started sending d-men out to shoot. JVR and Bozak made him look silly, but he did manage to stop Kessell on the third shot. Schenn could have won it but butchered his attempt. Then Clarkson schooled Heeter, but Laughton scored to even it up. Then the Leafs decided to use d-men and Heeter stopped them all. Noebels and Talbot missed for the Flyers, then McGinn won it.

Noebels move was slick, but it trickled wide. Talbot looked horrid in his attempt. Schenn's "move" looked like he was taking lessons from Hartnell.

From the stuff I have read from Holmgren, Chris Pryor and Laviolette, it seems like they feel Raffl could give them similar to what Gagne would have, had he been brought back.

They rave about his smarts and two way game, at this point, that's what Gagne would have brought.

That still might not be Milbury's worst trade...
- Jsaquella

It's not -- Yashin was coming off 44-50/40-48 seasons, at 25 years old, at 6-3, 215 pounds. That deal was defensible, fairly easily.

It's the Roberto Luongo trade that is indefensible.

EDIT: Sorry; you guys have already thoroughly discussed.

It's funny, because as always, Paul Holmgren and the crew get lit up just because they work for the Flyers, but if -- repeat, if -- Raffl works out, he'll join Ray Emery, Sergei Bobrovsky and Jaromir Jagr as recent signees from Europe who have performed.

They don't hit on every player, of course -- not saying they do. But it never fails to amaze me at how people continue to tell themselves that this front office is clueless.

If you can get a quality 3rd line player for under 800K, that's gravy. One year? What's the status after the 1st year? Sorry for all the questions. Just need all the deatails to have an informed discussion.

The Flyers front office receives far less credit than it deserves and far more criticism then is warranted.

Can somebody sum up the last two pre-season games? Has Mezaros looked like a stud again? Is Morin for realz?

Mez is not quite in stud form, but looks solid skating and moving the puck and his shot from the point gets off his stick quickly

there is some rust showing but he doesn't look "hurt" or tentative

haven't seen Morin, the feed was blacked out by the NHL

wtf NHL, blacking out a preseason game in out of state markets???

Just back from being out after the game.

I fully admit to being skeptical about where Morin was picked when the Flyers picked him.

After seeing him play for 60 minutes, even if half of the Caps were AHL/ECHL guys, it's evident that Morin can play, if only because of his sheer size and the way he moves. He seemed to look like he fits in. I know it's only one game and you hate to get carried away, but watching, I got the feeling that.....the kid can play. He has no business in the NHL this year, but....yeah, you can see so much good stuff in his game.
