Cousins was a nice surprise last night.
I thought Mez looked good. He and Grossmann were the only two who didn't look shakey at one point or another.
Both Read and Hartnell had some step in their game. I felt Hartnell was put in a position he wasn't used to, that of a playmaker. He was setting up plays more than you would normally see on a line with G. And Read was all over the ice (in a good way).
I hope Rinaldo is ok. I do want to see more of him this season!
It seemed like Clarkson could use some time in the AHL as he was noticeable but not finishing.
Laughton and McGinn weren't as hot as I would have hoped for.

Agreed on Maughton and McGinn, they were just kinda there.
I think Schenn was probably the Flyers best defenseman all game long. Didn't belong on the PP though, and likely won't in the regular season.

Clarkson might be an ECHL guy, I think, trying to get an AHL job.

Tough to draw much from that London game, which just seems like a college homecoming game for those guys that played there.

I don't wanna sound like a debbie downer, but I don't see Clarkson as anything more than a possible AHL player. Good for him scoring a goal though, he can at least hang his hat on that.

Too bad there were some inappropriate comments tossed at our tv, hahahaha....
I never should have told the fiancee about his history...

"Cousins, of course, had his issues to deal with last year," or something to that effect. Thanks for bringing that up Jackson.

K, yeah I must admit I didn't notice Schenn out there much - which for a defenseman means he's doing his job. so Schenn, Mez and Grossmann looked good. I cracked a smile when Mez cracked a bomb from the point for the first time in FOREVER. While Gill looked slow, Gus shakey, and Lauridsen a step behind the play.
Some of that though could be nerves.
I didn't see as much as I would have hoped from B Schenn... He wasn't bad but I wouldn't have said he was the best forward either.
I also wanted to forehead smack some of their more aggressive players. I was like, it's a frigging pre-season game!

It feels good to be talking hockey again!!!

Will both of tonight's games be accessible to watch?

I thought it was strange that they just brushed over it. Like he had been caught smoking weed. The kid was accused of rape.

He's a good player, despite his off ice troubles. It can be hard to separate the two, for sure.

Yep, but was never found guilty. So it shouldn't impact him. Hopefully the whole experience scared the poop out of him and he's learned something from it.
I'm ok if he's out there doing it to other team's goalies...

It seems like Gus always starts slow.

I'm not sure if I would even want Gill as a 7th Dman (I may consider him if the only other option is Gervais). Gill was never a burner but he is VERY slow at this point.

You would use up another contract slot to replace Gervais with Gill?

He did create a very long, low pylon for Kadri to stickhandle around last night.

The positives:

I got to watch a hockey game. Nobody was seriously injured. Laughton looked pretty good, Cousins looked very good, and Meszy played well. Stolarz continues to look like a very good prospect. Clarkson was pretty noticeable for a guy I never heard of.

The negatives:

I thought Gusty looked like poop for better than half of the game. He got cooked on the first goal after pinching.. Got lazy with a bouncing puck and cooked for the Mason on Mason goal.. and then I believe was split on the 3rd goal. The trend of breakaways and odd man rushes continues. Guys trying to make the team didnt seem to match the physical intensity that the Leafs brought. Lots of huge hits on Flyers that seemed to go unnoticed. A few of which I would have like to see a guy do something about (Brayden Schenn had a few choice words for the guy who threw the hit on Cousins.. would have liked to see other guys doing that as well).

Mason looked shaky to me and sort of settled down right before the switch.

I guess not. Im not really a fan of Gervais or Gill.

If the team remains as it is, the team will probably send Gus to the AHL and he will be called up if any dman is out for an extended period of time. Gervais should only play if the team loses a dman on a long road trip or if a dman needs a few games to recover.

Gustafsson would get claimed on waivers in half a heartbeat.

Who was Gill's partner last night? Gus?

Also, Kadri was by far the best player on the ice last night. Although, I'm sure if the Flyers had their top center, he would have looked pretty good.
