I'm assuming if I were GM of another team and the guy was proving that he is still capable of playing at a high rate, I'd inquire about him. I believe GM's weren't paying attention to him before because of his asking price, but obviously it has gone down. Mason Raymond at 1-1.5 million is a great bargain, and I'd have to say he's the best camp invite in the league right now. In my opinion, he should be making 2.5 million normally, I wasn't really expecting a player like him to be a camp invite. Pretty much any team in the league could use a good 3rd line LW, especially with his speed. Just saying, I think Nonis should give him an offer quick.

I wonder if Nonis' gesture of good will towards him brings the price down a little bit.

Not sure if this has been pointed out in subsequent pages, but where does Gunnarsson fit in?

The guy is arguably a top 3 defender on this team and has been for a good 2-3 years now.

I was discussing trading him, but that created an uproar not going to get into it again

What!? A lot of people like MacWilliam. And I noticed that Holzer played not bad. I hate him, and know how bad he screwed the pooch last year, but I actually think he played solid tonight. Not amazing. Just not horrible.

the dude fanned on like 20 shots (sarcasm but he fanned on alot)

Holzer sucks please dont even bother with him

Gunner Phaneuf

Gardiner Franson

Ranger Blacker

Ex: Fraser

Now this would be sick, i dont care blacker played really good. He has been at this for a while now having good camps and preseason games, its annoying when he gets shafted, he should be on the leafs. You have the correct right handed shooters on the right side well besides phaneuf who is obsessed with playing on that side so might as well leave him there

Really hope Carlyle experiments with some different line combos in the pre season such as a top 6 of:

JVR Kadri Kessel
Lupul Bozak Clarkson

The Leafs may have found their #1 Centre in Kadri. He can very well emerge into one soon if his confidence keeps up. I'm still hoping Rielly makes this team as the 7th D man and plays 40-50 NHL games and attends the World Juniors. He's ready to take the next step. Liles desperately needs to go.

I think having Kadri better benefits the team between clarkson and lupul. Kessel and jvr are better suited to make up for the lack of offensive skill for bozak. However I think bozak will have a break out year.

In theory, sure. In terms of potential, sure.

But Blacker just knows where he has to be on the ice. And never seemed to be a defensive liability tonight.

And he's a Right Handed shot.

Ranger, Fraser, Phaneuf, Gardiner, Rielly, Liles Gunnerson are lefties.

Holzer is the other Righty.

Blacker > Holzer.

The other (notable) Righties in the system are Granberg, Nilsson, Percy. Granberg played poopty in training camp, Percy is fresh out of Junior, not sure he's ready for the jump. Nilsson is likely back to Europe.

So you have Holzer, and you know Carlyle is going to have a hard on for another Right handed shot.

Umm its one preseason game against another preseason squad. They mean nothing.

But I see Reimer's glove is still working its magic.

Whether Holzer is a rightie or leftie....it doesn't matter...he simply brings no value.

How DARE you question anything regarding our no. 1 D pairing? They get tons of rope in this place.

I agree with you, though - any criticism of Dion-Gunnar sends this place into hissyfit mode.

Honestly haven't really paid any attention to hockey since the start of free agency, was far more into getting ready for the NFL to kickoff...but after watching the game last night I'm definitely excited for hockey to start.

Huh? This guy has been hitting everything in sight. Played solid D too.
Leafs seem to have nice depth on D.

I think you seriously over-rate Blacker. I've seen quite a few Marlies games over the last few years and the guy is a competent AHL player, but does not stand out in any facet of the game. Also, he is not much of a physical presence on the ice. I do think he would have trouble with the size and strength of NHL forwards on a nightly basis. I think he's a good player, yes, but what does it tell you that Fraser, Kostka, Holzer, and Ranger (all Marlie D-men at the beginning of last year) have all been slotted ahead of Blacker by the Leafs management in the depth chart at various times in the last year?

The other rightie? Cody Franson.

Reimer has had the better career than Bernier thus far. End of story.
- RogerRoeper

Leafs didn't need Bernier, he has less then a hundred games in the NHL, and lost Fratten to get him, Leafs would have been better of picking up someone like Moose Hedberg to back up Riemer for a year, and kept Fratten, lucky for the Leafs no one wanted Raymond and signed him to PTO, he is a upgrade from Fratten now, what Fratten will become a couple years down the road is a different story, and Raymond isn't a given.
