Do you just search threads for random wrasslin' talk and then go nuts when you find it once in every 50 or so?

If Peitrangelo snagged a 7 year, $6.5 mill per season contract. What will the Oilers have to pay Justin Schultz next summer to keep him?
- nated81

Nowhere near that... Not until he proves himself.

Cam Fowler/Slava Voynov/Kevin Shattenkirk money (4-4.25) because Schultz isn't even nearly as good as Pietrangelo.
- DTF69

I hope that is all and that he doesn't try to stage a hold out. The thing is they are both 23, last season AP had 47GP 5G 19A 24PTS and JS had 48GP 8G 19A 27PTS. I realize that it was just one shortened season and AP has more games under his belt in the NHL but those numbers from last season are very similar to each other.

Yeah AP is up there with the best in the game right now. Schultz offensively could be in the convo but defensively ita not close at the present time.

I wouldn't even say he's on Shattenkirk's level and he just signed for 4.25 long term

I think the Oil should try and get this guy signed early in the season at a lower AAV just in case he has a killer season and ends up demanding more next summer. Somewhere around 4years at $12 mill total would be good.

It all comes down to experience though, and up until now, Schultz hasn't proven much at all. If he wants anything close to AP, he'll get laughed at... Hopefully.

Yes but hes only going into his second year, you ll be able to better judge his ceiling after comparing rookie season to his second. He has the potential to be an elite pmd.

- Reveen

Pretty much. Next week thing's will get a bit more interesting.

I suspect Sunday or Monday a good number will be cut as we have that split squad this Saturday and need numbers.

Schultz changed his skating technique. Curious to see how much stronger he really is on his feet this year.

Intriguing, do you know in which way he changed it? ie. Wider stance, different push off

Lower to the ice.

Justin Schultz changed his stride slightly. He is lower to the ice and that allows him to generate more power. He wasn't instructed to change his stride. He mentioned that during the summer he remembered back to some of his skating camps and how all the instructors focused on being low to the ice, so he put a bit more emphasis on it, and he liked it. He said he feels much stronger, and he also looks thicker now than he did last January.

Like a lot of rookies he stormed out of the gate and then completely petered out.

Also, I feel a lot of his numbers are situational. If the Oiler's had less garbage on D would he get so many of the top offensive minutes? Is it because he's the guy or a guy.

But I guess the same argument could be made for a lot of dmen.

But as for pay, look at the 4 million dollar Dmen that signed their deals at the same point of their careers. Voynov, JJ, Shattenkirk, Fowler, Josi, Giordano, Hamonic, Staal, Vlasic, etc. Has Schultz even proved as much as any of them?

Hell, I don't even think he's proved more than a guy like Del Zotto or Kulikov.

Then look at the 5million dollar guys. OEL (big overpayment for what he's proved), Yandle, Keith, Seabrook, Kronwall, McDonaugh. Not even close.

And he's so far out of his league at AP money I don't even want to start.
