yo, sup dude

I think that number is what Step's been asking for and the Rangers haven't been willing to go that high.

But, no matter what, he needs to get in there, this sucks balls

Yea that I am aware of.. Kinda was thinking it would just happen. With that said then $3.25, I just don't see it coming off that number too much as I think it just makes too much sense. Right around what guys like Duchene and Giroux got. and a bit better than Kadri which makes sense given 3 years vs. 1 of solid production.

The big thing that bothers me here iss this: obviously a holdout is going to negatively effect the player no matter what. But considering you have a whole new coaching staff and new system these days of camp are so important.

Im not saying anything earth shattering here, i know, but step really needs to get on the ice. Lets hope a deal gets done today.

it has never really sat right with me that McDonagh was treated differently than Stepan, I understand it, but I have never liked it.

The reality is that this team has actually produced defensemen more successfully than it has produced impact forwards.

McDonagh is the best defensemen this franchise has produced since Leetch, no doubt, but at least we have developed some decent defensemen around here.

What forward have the Rangers produced themselves as offensively gifted as Stepan? is the last time Kovalev?

#NYR line-up tonight: Kreids-Richards-Nash, Hrivik-Boyle-Kristo, Mashinter-D.Moore-O'D, Bourque-Powe-Asham // Staal-MDZ, J. Moore-Bickel, Falk-A-Johnson

edit :O'D is Shawn O'Donnell. Training camp invite.

I was thinking Amonte or Weight, neither of whom the Rangers fans got to actually see in a Rangers sweater during their primes.

Youre absolutely right on that front, And that brings us back to the Richards situation.
Lets assume the rangers bought out Richards, does slats still play hardball with Stepan? Probably not.

And dont get me wrong, im all for Stepan getting as much as he can. I just wish this deal was done already.

Its just the way Slats does business. Stepan has no leverage, that's that.

You know Stepan got off to a slow start last year. His skating was troubling, but seemed to pickup after about 10-15 games. Not a gifted skater to begin with, he really needs to get this deal done and get into camp.

Hey all, long time no see! I just recently moved out of market.. is Center Ice now available because 2 weeks ago they wouldn't let me sign up yet. Would it let me watch the pre-season games anyway though?

Also, hoping Step gets done the next 2 days, he really shouldn't be missing camp.. my guess, 2 years $3.5 per.

- mrhattrick27

regarding NHL Center Ice, I was able to log in yesterday but none of the ongoing preseason games were available to watch so my guess tonight's game also won't be available.

from CBC 30 thoughts:

18. The belief is the Rangers remain approximately $1 million apart from Derek Stepan on a two-year bridge deal. If you believe the surest predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour, Stepan should switch to defence. New York has been much tougher on its forwards.

19. After their entry-level deals, Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Callahan both got two years from the Rangers. Dubinsky's total was $3.7M; Callahan's was 4.6M (I expect Stepan's total to be higher). Now look at the defence. Ryan McDonagh's new contract is six years for $28M, Marc Staal got five at $19.875M; and Dan Girardi four years at $13.3M. The exception was Michael del Zotto, who received two years.

Stepan also had 19 points in 14 April games and was the catalyst of the team making the playoffs. yeah, I'd day he picked it up

Clearly, the organization belief is forwards are easier to find than top defensemen are.

Which is most cases is true. Look at the Flyers and Islanders. Both organization's pruduce pretty good forwards. Both have been looking for a #1 defensman for a long time.

I don't mean to bash Stepan, that's not my intent. However, his game could take a hit because of his skating if he's not in camp soon. Plus the fact that there is new coaches, new system etc.

Yea I hate how Slats is falling back on "Oh he has no leverage so tough poop, Mac had arbitration rights that's how he is different." Sucks, I don't want him to sour on being here. $3.5 M is more than fair

what up boys? Will get something up before game time as to my thoughts as to what has transpired the past few days. Can we all agree to donate a $1 to the sign Derek Stepan fund and privately make up the difference between Slats and him?

I actually signed up for hockeystreams.com this year. I dont really know about the legality of it all but it does the job for now. I was able to stream all the games last night on my HTPC (XBMC) and my Raspberry Pi (XBMC also) no issues so I have the living room and my room covered. And the fact that i can stream it on my laptop, phone and tablet is great for business travel! They had the Pre-season scrimmage available and a lot of stuff archived! Plus you get AHL/CHL/International games also.

Will get to this in my blog, but it's right in line with what Matt Duchene got. Granted, you can say the cap dropped 10% sign then, but Duchene was coming off a bad year and got that. Also, Kadri got two years, $2.9 AAV but Sather has been more consistent and proved he can score in the playoffs, so $3.5 per is definitely in line with what he should get and may even be low.

Not that Sean O'Donnell. He is an old now-retired defenseman. This guy is a 25-year-old RW who played four years at St. Mary's and finished last season in the ECHL. He's just an extra body at this point destined for the minors.

On another note, I'm getting the sense that one or both of Marek Hrvik and Oscar Lindberg are going to break camp with the big team. AV has been talking them up and it seems they are putting in some good work at practice. Am interested to see both players.

I think Lindberg might make this team and play either Callahan or Hagelin while the rehab their injuries.
