Glad to see the Blues held out for months to sign him for what he was going to get one way or another. I swear, this was like the lockout; you knew the end result, but they just waited forever to get there |

Petro signs for around where Blues fans predicted, just as Shatty did... where are all the people saying Blues couldn't afford to keep their players again? - Antilles
Now the habs should extend PK for the same deal (Petro and Karlsson) |

He was insisting on 7m+. They held out and got him for a half million to a million less. And lost nothing. Philly should watch and learn. |

What are you talking about? Doesn't this mean they signed him only to turn around and trade him in the next few months? That's the way HB "logic" works at least |

100% agree. I expect if/when PK starts off like he left last season the countdown will begin. No way Habs want another drawn out negotiation when at this point the precedent is more than set |

Offering a fair contract isn't toying around. It's being smart.
Giving players whatever they want so you can't afford to build a contending team is a disservice to everyone on the team other than the one making the demands. |

They should have been talking to him all last season trying to get a contract done. Instead they yanked and pulled into the early days of training camp trying to save a few bucks. Well done. |

They did have discussions last season. They put out a fair deal, and waited for him to sign it. And criticism just sounds like sour grapes from someone who has realized his team is going to be paying a 38 year old Mark Streit within 1.25m of what Top 10 defensemen are getting in their prime. |

If the Blues have space, they better sign a guy to put the puck in the net during a playoff series...
You can't put together a better goalie tandem/coaching system/defense but man do they ever run into a roadblock in the post-season when all teams switch over to play that same defensive shut-down hockey. |

I have no problem with the Streit deal, honestly. And the "fair deals" they were putting out were around $4M and $5M. He's a #1 defenseman, and the Blues tried as hard as they could not to pay him like one. |

lol, sorry, I was talking about what the Blues actually offered, not the numbers you're just making up to support your opinion. |

The Blues and Doug Armstrong don't jerk around players and deal very fairly with everyone. Armstrong has also been very good about not handing out stupid deals. Why pay top dollar right out of the box to a 23-yr old who doesn't have arbitration rights (see Derek Stepan). They have all the leverage once they hit arbitration. Pietrangelo loves it here and both sides are happy, so why do you care? And where do you get your information that they were offering $4 or $5 mil? Maybe on a bridge deal, but not a long-term deal. But why am I debating someone who thinks the Streit deal was fine??? |

I'd put money on New Jersey. Gagne's family can stay in the area, Jersey may need some scoring especially if Jagr is going to be not at tip-top shape and Kovie gone. And Gagne is really tight with Broduer. Gagne has already seemingly worn out his welcome with his friends on the Kings, Flyers and Lightning. Jersey makes sense. |
