The difference is Golisono didnt want to pay them, and he didn't want to pay someone else to replace them. In addition to that we aren't getting a goalie of Millers caliber or a 30 goal scorer in return. Teams aren't just giving those pieces away. Why would they? Were likely getting a basket of prospects and picks like for Pommer, which aren't an apples for apples trade as far as todays on ice product.

Especially knowing that if we trade them for picks and prospects we will have an even deeper prospect pool and have a ton cap room.

I don't know how many players would want to sign here but we would at least have the means. Next year's UFAs should be better than this year's.

Vanek for sure. Not Miller though. If he plays well enough to have the Sabres in contention, he's not taking enough of a paycut to justify his place on the roster.

Peron ally I think the idea/fear of Miller and Vanek walking for nothing is way overblown. Those two walk, you have roughly 14 Mil freed up in capspace. That in of itself has so much value.

I STILL hear people talking about when Briere and Drury left. And when you trade players, their salary goes to the other team too. What are you gonna do with all the cap space when theres no free agents worth spending on? You need to trade, in order to get anything of value in return. They need to start modeling their decisions more after teams with proven sucess and strong franchises (Detroit, Chicago)
