The captain should be the one that represents the team and forwards the message from the coach. The guy that the team will listen too and try to follow the instructions given.

And the player that stands up in front of everyone and goes to get the patch in my opinion wants that responsibility and accepts it. IMO Drury would have done that, I can't see Pommer doing that.

The clear-cut best option is "Mr. Outside Hire" and should be acquired via trade. It's too obvious that's what needs to happen, that why it'll never happen in Buffalo. Peron ally I think the idea/fear of Miller and Vanek walking for nothing is way overblown. Those two walk, you have roughly 14 Mil freed up in capspace. That in of itself has so much value.

Wanting to be the leader is the first step to being a good leader. If you don't want it, you shouldn't be it. This is the part of Sabres recent history you don't get, theres been a huge void in the leadership dept for years. No one has wanted to step up.

The difference is Golisono didnt want to pay them, and he didn't want to pay someone else to replace them. In addition to that we aren't getting a goalie of Millers caliber or a 30 goal scorer in return. Teams aren't just giving those pieces away. Why would they? Were likely getting a basket of prospects and picks like for Pommer, which aren't an apples for apples trade as far as todays on ice product.
