The captain should be the one that represents the team and forwards the message from the coach. The guy that the team will listen too and try to follow the instructions given.

Who is that guy on the Sabres ?

Took a screenshot of the first game I played, a solid shutout victory:

If it's the first game you played, why is Vanek scoring goals 21 and 22 in it?

To everyone female doging about Vanek scoring his 21st and 22 goals in Kevin's first game chill out. Maybe he simulated 20 something games before he actualy played a game.

Edit: 9-2-1 start not sure whats going on anymore

Not one player stands out in my mind. Vanek is going to be checked out the entire year. As a Sabres fan I pray that the gamble of keeping him until this years trade deadline pays off bigtime but I have a feeling we are all going to be saying "should have traded him last deadline or the offseason". As long as it's not the rotating captain system that the great Lindy initiated, possibly the worst idea I've ever seen.

Being a captain will add more value at the trade deadline.

exactly why i wouldn't do it.. I am sick of changing the captain every year. lets just let a real captain reveal himself and give it to them.. captains are not created by giving them a letter they are born, lets find out who has it in them.
- SabresFaninIndiana

Personally, I don't care that they change the captain every year. As far as I'm concerned, until they find someone that can lead them to be a championship caliber team, they should be switching the captain (and no, I don't mean a rotating captaincy). Nobody they've had in the half-decade plus, has been anywhere close.

Which still would be inaccurate, as we have no idea what kind of offer was ever on the table for Vanek in the offseason.

I see no one on their roster who is worthy of being a captain. To say Ott for captain is just a joke. He has SOME characteristics of leadership but you need a guy who can lead by example and put the team on his back when needed. Steve franking Ott is that guy? Trade Miller and Vanek asap and find a guy who will be the leader for many years to come

He's too Austrian to be captain.

He's too "We'll just see what happens, how it plays out, if I'll sign an extension or not" to be captain.

no way should Ott be captain...he doesnt need to wear a letter to 'lead' by example. Ehrhoff isnt vocal enough, Ennis, Drew, Ville...nope...Hods or Myers probably arent ready. HDTV, only if he there are real signs that he'll sign an extension

I'd be fine going with Mike Weber by default. He's a gamer, a very hard worker and has fought hard to get to where he is now...and he's the kind of guy that probably wouldnt mind letting one of the younger guys get the C in a few years when theyre ready

Weber is a good dude and a solid roster player, but having a Captain that will never see an All-Star game screams weakness within the organization.
