Does Hartzell have any chance of making the team now or in the future. He seems to have a great future but will goalies you just never know. How has he looked?
- flyerdude17

He looked pedestrian in the rookie tournament last week. But it's only one tournament. Like you said, you just never know with young goalies.

He'll be in Wilkes-barre this year. I dont think theres any set development plan for any of the young goalies. You just try to give your prospect pool a chance to have one emerge within the next few years and I think the Pens did that between Murray, Jarry, and Hartzell

Don't be too sure. They needed help before Pitkanen went on the shelf. They may still be in the market for another D-man.

I truly don't see how Bylsma, Shero, or even the players can trust Fleury AT ALL now. He's been an overrated goalie since he broke into the league, but it's now gotten to the point where he is an average, to mediocre goalie at best. If I'm a Pens fan, it's Vokoun ALLLLLL the way.
- Flyers_V88

Mediocre goalies don't get their teams to back to back Cup finals and win one. He is a good goalie during the regular season - above average. He plummets in the play-offs. Overrated since breaking into the league? LOL

You want overrated ... look no further than #14 on your roster.

I disagree with you saying he was always overrated, he was a very good goalie especially during the playoffs during their cup win and even the season before when they lost to the wings.

From what I've read, I think it's more than likely Nisky stays (for now). The Pens like him....plain and simple. Despres showing up out of shape probably seals the deal....AHL bound.

Anybody ever notice the dip in Marc Andre Tirefire's career strangely seems to coincide with the implementation of Bylsma's vaunted defensive scheme?

That theory has been debunked.

Source: Vokoun's play.

Give it time...

Vokoun had to play out of his mind in several of those playoff games. What's the chances he or any goalie can keep that pace?

I am genuinely getting turned off the team by this whole situation. Drafting Pouliot and not a wing, all the Morrow bullcrap and terrible trade, Despres hyper-mismanagement. Its like they're purposefully trying to collapse the franchise's future. Niskanen has been our worst defenseman more nights than not for over a season, we don't have the cap space, how hard is it to make the logical decision for once? Even if he pans out, we don't have space for him on the roster anyway! This is bush league.

Ummm.... The team routinely puts together 100 point seasons, and has reached at least the conference finals 3 of the last 6 seasons.

If that is bush league then what do you consider acceptable? The 1980's Oilers?

Not true. He had a rough go in the playoffs but he was playing at an acceptable level for the rest of his sample size with Pittsburgh.

Really upsetting news on fluery's end. Everybody wants to turn to Vojoun like last years playoffs and I'm not sold on that either. His last full season he played was not to hot... he was injured and got replaced by the young guys in washington. He only had minimal games last shortened season before shining in the playoffs. I really really hope Fluery figures it out otherwise the pens could be in some big big trouble.

IMO Despres was certainly mishandled last year, but showing up at camp out of shape isn't going to make his case stronger. Remarkably poor decision to not be ready to TAKE a spot.

Their personnel management is bush league. The majority of the roster is a non-decision but they still manage to screw up the 1 or 2 question marks. Iginla and Neal with Malkin? Everyone could see that didn't work from the first game. Then he gets one chance with Crosby and gets moved back after playing one of his best games? We dominate on the powerplay with Iginla for 2 series and then they decide to change it up? What?

Niskanen and Glass get overplayed, even though Glass is literally a negative and has been the whole time every time he's on the ice? Engelland and Niskanen playing over Despres because we're playing a physical team? Seriously? Despres evened out Letang's play when they played together, but he steps on the puck twice, literally twice, and he gets benched for Niskanen. Even though Despres was our second best D behind Martin.

Vokoun not named starter even though Fleury hasn't earned it? 2 years of Fleury having mental issues and Meloche only just leaves this off-season? Bylsma's continual failure to adjust in-game even when every fan can see whats going on?

The whole team has mental issues in tough games when 2 years ago that was our strength.

I guess seeing him come to camp in this shape makes me wonder if he was mismanaged or not. Maybe the coaching staff saw something in him that they didn't like and this camp highlights that? just speculating. the despres situation could be like transformers

If he is traded I hope he is a bust... similer to what I think Morrow is gonna be.
