I'm going to head over to Winsport to see how the boys are looking today. Anyone you guys want me to keep an eye out for in particular?

What about as a captain option?
- artem791

He's pretty low key for the most part but then again, all in the know said Jarome was a non-leader in the room. Honestly, I'd just have co-captains-GlenX, Cammy and Gio and see if one rises to the top in terms of leadership...

Altho i wouldnt call glencross a "CORE" player per say, i dont think he is moved unless the return is substantial, must mean something

I think the 3 options for captain would be gio, glenx or cammy

I can see Liles being moved to Calgary for a mid level pick.

I don't see GlenX being moved anytime soon if at all. Maybe at the deadline for a bubble team or a team looking to shore up for the playoffs (which won't be us).

Hey Colin, whats your opinion on Phaneuf? Will he get moved this year or do you see him getting extended?

- geta02it

Honestly, thats a damn good question. Given the minutes hes played in Toronton by Carlyle, I doubt the look to move him unless he suffers this year or his demands are too high. Other than that...he'll likely remain a Leaf.

I agree on not having Cammy as C. Gio would be a far better choice IMO.

As for the Leafs....anyone thinking they will get rid of Liles for just a pick I think is dreaming. It would require another player with a contract back or picks along with him. As for your assertion that they can send down a couple guys for additional cap relief....the leafs roster with them included is at 22. So even if Franson is signed you have a full roster. You send guys down and all of a sudden have a very short bench and no wiggle room if a guy gets injured. It would be ill advised to run at the cap with a short roster.

Gio deserves the "C". Yes he struggled a bit last year and his numbers dipped...but nobody can question his compete level and I think he makes a great example for the young kids on the team now. He's been a loyal soldier for 5+ years and unlike Iggy theres no pressure on him to put up big numbers every year. Just go out, play hard and I think his teammates will respect that.

Game 1 so far...

Glenny already has 2 goals. Him, Stajan and Stemper are by far the most dangerous line on the ice. Nemisz also has a goal. All 3 were scored on Joey Mac.

Berra hasn't really been tested, but he's stopped everything that's come his way.

SOB is super vocal out there, clearly embracing the role of leader and mentor for the young guys.

Sieloff's playing with a real edge, not lining guys up for the big open ice hit, but definitely playing tough along the boards and in front of the net.

Corban Knight's playing with David Eddy and Paul Byron... makes me think he hasn't necessarily locked up a spot yet.

There are no spots for Smith and Holzer on this years Leafs roster. But include Franson and Raymond in there instead and you will be fine.

They may and very well need to entertain moving Liles, and I feel that there are a few teams who would be interested for the right price.

Ya I'm thinking this weekend might be the last chance to get out in some warm weather......good thing hockey is ramping up, because that just makes me sad.

Yeah I was going to say the same thing...thought Knight would be tested a litle more throughout camp so far but sounding like hes really going to need to prove himself.

I wouldn't read too much into the lines/pairings, either way that 4C position will be a good battle between Horak, Knight and Reinhart. I'd like to see Horak stay up with the big club.

Second half of game 1.

Begin scored on a deflection. Knight with a rocket wristshot... both goals on Berra. Ortio only played for half the game but shut them out and looked solid yet again.

Cammy and Jones seem to be a pretty consistent winger pairing. Monahan and Backlund rotated through the middle. Not a ton of chemistry there yet at this point. Cammy didn't get the puck very often and Jones seems to be playing on the outside a lot, not driving to the net.

Monahan looked good out there, generating chances... but seems to get knocked down a lot. When
Ferland continues to impress without being flashy... almost every shift seemed to end in the offensive zone.

Weatherspoon looks calm and confident. He was paired with Gio which probably helps, but his passes were crisp and on target and he moves the puck quickly.

Game 2 starts in 10.
