There is a story on the main page of TSN saying that it looks like he's a wing.

I'm very not upset.

That's my point. I really don't get what a PTO is. Only thing I can assume is that it may allow the team to over you for insurance.
- jmatchett383

It's a Professional Tryout Contract. And it probably covers things like Medical issues, and insurance, as you suggest. A player signed to a PTO is not eligible to play in the NHL regular Season.

Or Cleary. So yea... Thats the nature of a verbal agreement... its not written down, so it cant be on record....
- youarewrong

No, he definitely signed a PTO and had an agreed upon (verbally) contract. It was reported by several reputable hockey people.

Right, I knew it wasn't a contract. But as has been brought up, it seems like it's more for legal issues.

When "it looks like" becomes removed from the sentence, I'll believe.

Not losing a lot of sleep over this. I thought the contract was a bit steep to be honest. Management of the team should be peeved.

And that is that. Aaron Ward just tweeted the Dan Cleary is going to join the Red Wings at their training camp. Flyers should be reaching out to Gagne at this point.
- Flyers1218

Or they could stand pat. I wouldn't mind that either.

If the roles of this were reversed and the Flyers did this to Ken Holland, the backlash would have been sending shockwaves throughout the league.

Not a huge deal. Would have been nice to add Cleary as he is better than the current in house options. Hopefully they can sign Gagne now.

I wouldn't be opposed to putting Talbot on the third line, and letting McGinn play a 4th line role, but I think they will start out having Rosehill on the 4th line. Hope I'm wrong.

Right, but the same was said about Carle. And reputable sources said Gagne was told that once they clear space the Flyers will sign him. It's all speculative.

I thought he'd help us for sure, but that was a lot of money for a guy his age.

they need grit/size on the 3rd line. talbot and read on the wings is not what I'd be looking for...I'm back on the chimera bandwagon myself...

don't care about Cleary
it would've been a nice pickup but he wanted a true contract from Detroit. it appears he got one...later dude

Gagne would still be a decent signing.

Send the kids back to juniors to add more seasoning.

happy thursday peeps

i can't beleive a player used another team as leverage to get a contract to his liking from the team he really never wanted to leave...
