Yes my favorite Pronger quote ever! Used to have more of it in my location, had to shorten it when they shortened the field...

He's had quite a few good ones.

- FlyersGrace

I found that quote when they first signed Jagr. Went searching for Jagr nicknames and puffnuts came up. I had to see what that was about, and here Pronger said it.... I almost brought a sign with puffnuts on it to the first day of camp that year.... good times, good times.

So even though it was a shortened season and didn't get the full 9 games, he still used all of his games?

Yes, everything is adjusted due to the shortened 48 game Season.

He used us to get less money! What an a-job! Just like Bonilla!!
- Flyskippy

So it's confirmed he's signed with Detroit for less? Maybe he used us to get a contract offer that had not been offered to this point?

I don't disagree. Go string up an NHL official...

My only issue is that he had a verbal agreement with the Flyers, and then is at least considering backing out. He should have just told Detroit he was going to take the Philly offer before agreeing to it if he was still considering Detroit.
- jmatchett383

A verbal agreement wouldn't have forced the Flyers to sign him if he got hurt in training camp, so I don't blame Cleary for backing out. I really hope that's what he's doing.

All he really had is a PTO. Holmgren was quoted as saying that there is no guarantee of a contract. Now that may have been just blowing smoke. But if Cleary comes to Camp, and looks terrible, and has issues skating with his knees as an example. Do the Flyers still go ahead with the deal? When it comes to contracts, it is a business. The player's main loyalty is to himself. And likewise with the team.

I guess I don't get the PTO, really. Hal Gill signed a PTO with the Flyers. Does that mean he could sign go to any team's training camp, nor not show up at Flyers' camp, or sign a PTO with every other team? What is a PTO (I know what it stands for) and what exactly does signing one mean?

I don't know the exact details. But if an NHL team calls up Gill's agent and offers him a contract, he's free to leave to my knowledge.

Just like Carle had a verbal agreement, and the Flyers gave Gagne a verbal agreement before bringing in Cleary... Its the nature of business. Maybe the idea of getting hurt in camp before he signed a contract made him nervous and is willing to take less so there is lower risk of not getting a contract at all.

Interesting. Guess you know what Bud with an old cigarette butt tastes like then.
The fiancee came up with a new one the other day.

I don't expect anything until this all shakes out. Until then, it's all speculation & conjecture: food for the gullible fish. It stirs up the water in the bowl and nothing is clear.

That's my point. I really don't get what a PTO is. Only thing I can assume is that it may allow the team to over you for insurance.

Or he had every intention of coming until his love fest with Detroit yesterday and he's bailing cause he never truly wanted to leave. Whatever.

Basically its an agreement that the player can tryout for the team. More based on liabilty then commitment. If something happens to him, the Flyers aren't liable. Both the team and the player can decide to cancel the contract at any time for any reason.

And that is that. Aaron Ward just tweeted the Dan Cleary is going to join the Red Wings at their training camp. Flyers should be reaching out to Gagne at this point.
