I couldn't agree more Tartan with your analysis of Bill's research. He IS the reason I come back here every day. The clowns on the forum help keep me sane at work but Bill makes me a more informed and intelligent Flyers and hockey fan.
Then I blow all that knowledge in the forums.

Your question got me thinkin'. I noticed that a lot of blogs, the comments from non-flyer fans continue to comment on how close they are to the cap limit and how this will tie their hands in the season, if someone get injured.

Homer tends to lock this up quickly by - generally - not needing the injury trade to fill gaps. His call up list is pretty good. I'm not sure of all the waiver/call up rules, but Laughton will probably have a couple "cups of coffee" with the Flyers. Instead of all or nothing, Laughton will be brought in slowly - which is probably the best.

- leon neon

Laughton can't be called up. He's either with the Flyers all year or back to juniors all year.

McGinn and Akeson are probably the 2 most likely forward call ups. I see Raffl as a wild card, and I hope he spends most of the season in the AHL.

Probably should just call it the Screaming Viking for short. We did that in college: made drinks of various ingredients but always called it a Screaming Viking.

Jeff Reece? Come on, I want to see Hexy down on that ice with a stick in his hand showing these guys how to do it right. Game 1 I want to see Mason come out and channel Hextall and begin banging his stick on the pipes to start the game.....
- youarewrong

Hexy's hips would explode and disintegrate as soon as he stepped on the ice.

Interesting. Guess you know what Bud with an old cigarette butt tastes like then.
The fiancee came up with a new one the other day.

DP: Do you call guys by their first names on the ice? Like do you call out, "Hey, Jaromir"?
CP: No. I try not to call anyone by their first name out there. I call Jagr puffnuts.
DP: Puffnuts?
CP: Or knucklehead, because more often than not, he's whining to the ref when I'm out there. So I'm like, "Play the game, puffnuts."

Yes my favorite Pronger quote ever! Used to have more of it in my location, had to shorten it when they shortened the field...

He's had quite a few good ones.

Doesn't Laughton have X amount of games with the big club, but after that they either have to sign him or send him back... Do those games have to be in a row, at the beginning of the season?

Hmmm..... I said this yesterday.

Sounds as if Cleary played the Flyers like a fiddle.

Elliotte Friedman ‏@FriedgeHNIC 1m
Working theory is he simply did not want to leave DET. Expectation is he will re-sign -- probably for less than he would get in PHI.

- PLindbergh31

If he accepts less to play in Detroit, how did he play the Flyers like a fiddle? Now if he used the Flyers as leverage to get more money from Detroit, then the Flyers, maybe you'd have a point. But if he signs in Detroit, for less money then with the Flyers. It sure seems to me like that's where he wants to be. And that until Detroit came back into the mix, the negotation between Cleary and the Flyers was legitimate.

I just observed, didn't imbibe after a bad experience with a drink made of Tabasco sauce & Tequila. That was called "Dumpster drink" because of the smell.

As to moon fire, is that before or after one drinks it?

No he doesn't. Laughton used those games up last Season. If he plays one game with the Flyers, his EL deal starts. He can however be sent back to Juniors at any point.

I don't think they need to be in a row or at the beginning of the season. What I don't know is if the ones he played up last season count towards the total # or not. I didn't think they reset each season.

It's not a great sign when you offer the most money and it doesn't work. Sports are a business where athletes 99.9% of the time take the most money. We have the examples of Parise, Suter, and now Cleary not coming to Philadelphia for more money than what they ultimately accepted.
- PLindbergh31

So that outweighs all of the Free Agents who agreed to come to the Flyers? Such as Emery, Lecavaleir, and Streit? And that's just this off season.

So even though it was a shortened season and didn't get the full 9 games, he still used all of his games?

Yes, his games are all used up. If he plays once with the Flyers, he's on year 1 of the ELC.

And Emery and Vinny could have got more money elsewhere. It's really no disgrace if a Detroit guy like Cleary takes less money to stay there.

My only issue is that he had a verbal agreement with the Flyers, and then is at least considering backing out. He should have just told Detroit he was going to take the Philly offer before agreeing to it if he was still considering Detroit.
