Which media? Elliott Friedman reported yesterday Cleary wouldn't show up today in Philadelphia. Holmgren re-buffed those reports.

I pay zero attention to the Philly media, but there are legit guys out there that have real sources.

- PLindbergh31

Not sure why your upset with the Philly media over this? All I saw reported locally was that Holmgren said that they expect Cleary to be at camp.

What was the point of Holmgren's innocent act? He must have known what was going on. Does he expect to get something from Detroit?

So has it been "officially" reported whether or not Cleary showed today?

Here's why Meltzer is the best. Most writers would simply say:
I received conflicting information from non-Flyers sources.
One source said that the nature of Flyers' supposed handshake agreement on a contract but official no-guarantee PTO status ran afoul of the NHL.

They would stop right there. Or maybe they might even go as far as to add a personal interpretation.

Bill on the other hand immediately goes the extra mile to get the correct info right from the horse's mouth:
I inquired to NHL deputy commission Bill Daly by email this evening to ask to whether it would constitute a violation of CBA rules in some way if what St. James initially reported was true. Daly replied that it would NOT violate the CBA.

This leaves no room for confusion. Quality.

I don't think he's coming. Whatever, I personally wanted him, but it doesn't make or break the team. I just think how he handled it wasn't the most professional. Plus he had an agreement with the Flyers and the Wings came back in to get him back (perfectly legal). Funny thing is if the roles were reversed I could only imagine the backlash around the league for the Flyers doing something like that.

I'm probably a bit biased here, because I wasn't cool with the length of the Cleary deal...but if he makes a deal with the Flyers, and then tries to back out to go with another team, I don't really want him. I understand it was only a handshake deal with a PTO, but still seems like a crap move.

Cleary's agent handled this well, I think.

By the letter of the law, it's "all in the game", but really, it's kind of sleazy.

I'm not upset at the Philly media. I don't even pay attention to them.

I couldn't agree more Tartan with your analysis of Bill's research. He IS the reason I come back here every day. The clowns on the forum help keep me sane at work but Bill makes me a more informed and intelligent Flyers and hockey fan.
Then I blow all that knowledge in the forums.

Leight, but just saw "CoHo" signed 6 years at $4.25M per. That seems like a steep price, to me.

It's a JVR kind of deal. Might be overpayment, might be a bargain.

Jeff Reece? Come on, I want to see Hexy down on that ice with a stick in his hand showing these guys how to do it right. Game 1 I want to see Mason come out and channel Hextall and begin banging his stick on the pipes to start the game.....

Guess we'llfind out ina few hours if Cleary is going to be a Flyer or not. Nothing is ever easy in the Flyer Zone!!

On another topic: Bill, how would you rate Laughton's chances of making the final roster?

- BiggE

Your question got me thinkin'. I noticed that a lot of blogs, the comments from non-flyer fans continue to comment on how close they are to the cap limit and how this will tie their hands in the season, if someone get injured.

Homer tends to lock this up quickly by - generally - not needing the injury trade to fill gaps. His call up list is pretty good. I'm not sure of all the waiver/call up rules, but Laughton will probably have a couple "cups of coffee" with the Flyers. Instead of all or nothing, Laughton will be brought in slowly - which is probably the best.
