I'm looking forward to there being less breakaways and odd man rushes personally.

I still expect a lot of break aways because of their style of play. The addition of Streit won't reduce those, just help us get out of our zone better once they do happen.
I won't be displeased to be wrong though!

If this is the case I expect Laviolette to be gone by November.

Depends on if we are winning or not. That's always the kicker. Snider won't care if we win 1 - 0 or 5 - 3. Just as long as we win.

And then that Scotty Bowman clone Terry Murray comes in and rights the ship.

Hmmm..... I said this yesterday.

Sounds as if Cleary played the Flyers like a fiddle.

Working theory is he simply did not want to leave DET. Expectation is he will re-sign -- probably for less than he would get in PHI.

Meh, I'm ok with being the stalking horse occaisonally. We aren't a bad destination. I will say this about Holmgren, he doesn't mind paying for the players he wants. And unlike some other fans out there, we are never bored!

I was much more bothered by his seeming inability stop pucks at a consistently high level.

Jonathon Quick is a terrible puck handler, but he's a fantastic goalie. I'd rather have the guy that keeps the puck out of the net than the guy who can make an outlet pass.

- Jsaquella

Good point about goaltending. Number one priority - stop the puck.

About Cleary, echoing many feelings here, I like Cleary a lot. Just not for three years which is why I'd have no problem with Holland sweetening the deal and taking him back.

Meh. I don't see why you will lose sleep over any of this if Cleary ends up in Detroit. Thank him for the free song and move on.

It's not a great sign when you offer the most money and it doesn't work. Sports are a business where athletes 99.9% of the time take the most money. We have the examples of Parise, Suter, and now Cleary not coming to Philadelphia for more money than what they ultimately accepted.

I'm fine with not landing Cleary for what the reported terms were. Good chance the last year of the deal could have been bad.

he works hard but, his skating will only get worse. 3 year deal is a year too long.
playoff warrrior also.

After reading the first 3 words, he works hard, I just wanted to finish it by saying he works hard for the money so you better treat-em right.......

Which media? Elliott Friedman reported yesterday Cleary wouldn't show up today in Philadelphia. Holmgren re-buffed those reports.

I pay zero attention to the Philly media, but there are legit guys out there that have real sources.

4.6 million dollar raises are pretty hard to say no to. It's not as if Giroux gave the Flyers any sort of home town discount.
