Hope you guys don't mind me posting this, but just helps me.

My parents' 19-year-old maine coone was put down Tuesday night. We got him when I was in 5th grade, and I moved out in the summer of 2007, but I'd seen him every day for 13 years of my life. When I moved out, the cat which had been "my" cat actually became a bit hostile towards me (she passed away in February), but the maine coone was always the sweetest cat ever. In the last few years, he's become a bit ragged, losing a lot of his body mass. In the last year, he developed a small mass on his side, which had grown to about the size of a tomato. He lost almost all of his body mass; he went from about 16 pounds to 5. He had a small growth of his lip, and petting him was like petting bones almost. Still, he was incredibly sweet. And I've never seen my dad love a cat so much.

My parents had to put down a cat I don't even remember because he became paralyzed, and another because he wasn't able to eat. But this was the first time they ever had to put a cat down without some huge limiting factor, although all he really wanted to do now was find a nice spot and lay down all day. I wasn't there for it, but I was happy that at least my parents were there with him when he passed. Even being miles away, I still cried that night knowing that he wouldn't be there the next time I went there, and thinking that my parents would wake up the next morning and there wouldn't be a cat to feed. My dad won't talk about it, but my mom and I talked last night.

I know it doesn't compare to a relative dying, but he was as close to a relative as can be. And I don't know why, but I spend as much time on here as I do most anywhere else, so I just wanted to put it out there.

I'm sorry to hear it. Animals are special. I spend more time with my animals than my relatives. And I COMPLETELY understand how the loss impacts you. My own recent losses bear witness to this.
My heart is with you on this one.

You're right. I feel like a complete idiot. You showed me. I'll go away and not post here again until I'm at least as smart as you.

That relates to one player. And again, if it's understood on what the Cap is about, is creating an equal playing field, and limiting player salaries. And preventing a team like the Flyers who have a large financial backing behind them, from just signing whoever they want. That's what the Cap is all about, and what it's supposed to do. You can't sign everybody!

Again, the fact that Cleary decided to go elsewhere, for less money then the Flyers were offering, does not point to the Flyers having a salary cap issue. If they did, how were they able to commit to a deal in principle with Cleary, for 2.75M a year, when they , as you say, have a Cap problem, and are over the Cap?

If you want to discuss the facts, I'm game. If you want to throw darts, not interested.

Whoa. My condolences, jmatchett. Our cat is the best pet I've ever had and we've only had him for 2 years since we rescued him. He became sick in June right around the time our son was born. Turns out he most likely has cancer. It made me as sad as my sons make me smile. Clarke the cat is still around but he's ill. He's not in pain yet but we dread the eventuality. So, I feel your pain. Hang in there.

There isn't a single fact that I've ignored. I know the Cap inside out, and exactly how it works. In fact it's the opposite. I've considered all the facts involving the NHL Salary Cap. And more importanly, I can support my statements and back it up.

So now that the Cleary topic is done...

Who do you guys think makes the starting goalie? And who will we see more in pre-season?
Any update on Giroux? He going to make any of the pre-season games?
And anyone at the training camp? Any cool insights?

This, however, does make me slightly happy. From the Pittsburgh blog:

"Fleury's start to camp included giving up 3 goals on his first 3 shots, one of which was an own goal like the ones he has been giving up in the playoffs. Further damning Fleury was that the first two goals were scored by Tanner Glass and Craig Adams, not good. "

I read where Giroux is actually passing the puck at practice but not shooting.

That tells me he'll see at least one preseason game....maybe two.

Now that the Cleary thing is done, I'm betting Michael Raffl gets a longer look, but I think Tye McGinn wins that job.

I'm going to training camp with Mini-me on Saturday AM (he's got a fall baseball game at 12:30) and a preseason game on Monday against the Caps.

I'm ready for hockey to start, like, yesterday.
