But the figures that you're looking at that makes you beleive that the Flyers are over the Cap, has Cap hits for 10 defenseman in the calculation. Not to mention 25 players, when the roster limit is 23.

I now look forward to everyone killing Homer yesterday for a nonexistent deal to rescind their comments.

I would prefer a bigger player who could create space for Read and Couturier. Someone like Stalberg.
- Feanor

Or Weber. I'm sure he could play 3rd line Wing, right?

He still made the deal so your argument is invalid. The complainers will complain and now they can complain about how he couldn't get the deal signed even though they didn't want Cleary.

By the way, where's MIII playing this year? Same place? Is he a peewee?

- mayorofangrytown

M3 (me) is retired. M4 is a PeeWee this year. He's playing at the same place. We thought about moving but didnt have time to look with the arrival of his brother. We're hoping he blooms into a top pair d-man or we'll have to ask for a demotion.

Zubrus would have been good on the third line, too. But I wouldn't have wanted to give him a 3 year deal at his age like NJ did.

1 year 1.75mm, wtf????
- flyerscup2011

Flyers offered 8.25 over 3 years. So Cleary took 6.5 million less to stay in Detroit.

WTF is right.

Would like to see other examples of this. Can't recall off the top of my head. Seems kind of unprecedented.

Using this premise, Gagne should agree for the Flyers to place a time clock in the building, where he punches in and out for 10 bucks an hour.

Maybe he's closer to retirement than was initially reported?
Yeah that's a lot of money to leave on the table to be "comfortable". Particularly cuz it's not like they are hands down favorites to win a cup.

I will repost what I put on Ek's latest info. on Cleary:

Flyer fans: be very glad the deal fell through for you. Cleary is not worth anything close to what he was asking.

Some Wings fans are still loyal to him and keep harping that Cleary put some points up in last year's playoff run. Yeah.. he did. But he has been crap the last three regular seasons. He is not a finisher. He's a 3rd / 4th liner at best. He has two bad knees.. (operations on both last year) and is almost 35 years old. Also, he is not nearly as effective as he was a few years ago... now days he tends to cough up the puck a lot more. I hope it's only a 1-year deal. The Wings need that roster spot for the talented young guys like Nyquist, Tatar, Anderssoon, etc.... This is yet another example of Holland letting his loyalty to older vets clouding his judgement.

I hear what you are saying. I'm not unhappy he didn't sign with the Flyers at the reported terms. 1 yr for 1.75 is a great deal for Detroit. Holland is nothing short of amazing.

I thought I read that the Wings offered 3 and 6mil before. He even took a cut off of their initial offer.

I don't know what the actual terms are for the deal... if it's only a 1-year deal then I won't be as upset. He may have one good playoff run left in him. I don't want ANY deal that is more than this season. Wings can waive Tootoo and even trade Emmerton to make space. But they cannot let somebody like Eaves leave. This signing may frustrate some of the Wings' young guns. The Wings have too much young talent that need ice time

More like Cleary's knees explode mid-stride in 7th OT of game 7, coughs puck up to Laughton who scores first-ever playoff goal, sending the Flyers to the Cup Finals where they face off against the Shea Weberified Nashville Predators.
