Larry Brooks writes that if the Rangers wanted to keep Hedberg instead of Biron, it would be a 3.75 million cap hit to send Biron to AHL, Biron's cap hit is 1.3 million, Rangers only choice would be to find a trade for Biron.

I don't understand this, but I assume Larry is correct.

So far the Rangers camp has been anything but smooth.

I believe Larry Brooks is wrong. If Biron were sent to the AHL it would be a 375K cap hit, not 3.75 million.

in any event, the Rangers are going to need a backup goalie to play more than ever with this being a condensed 82 game season and with Henrik being the most important goalie in the Olympics.

The Rangers are going to need a backup goalie whose head is into this

Yeah, I think Brooks wrote that article after his 8th scotch last night.

It may happen of Hedberg signs for $1M (though I highly doubt that). It will free up more $$$ to sign Stepan who needs to get on the ice. He has a new coach and system this season; he needs to lace them up now.

How about sign Hedberg to a 2 way contract?

1ST PRE SEASON GAME ON Monday, oh boy. AV has a lot on his plate right away here, Stepan, Biron, on the road for a month, no Cally, Hags.

Not sure I see that. Unless he doesn't want to move out of the area (though, he could probably get a backup gig with the Isles), I don't see him accepting a 2-way deal to finish out his carreer.

If he would take it, then only if it's for less than what Biron makes if Hedberg would ever gat called up.

Key word...pre-season. Neither one of those players (except maybe Biron) would probably play that game anyways (if here and healthy)

Are we hitting the panic button in the pre-season, big guy? I sure hope not because I think Stepan will be here, before the season begins, and the back-up goaltending situation will be as it has been since 2010. I think Hedberg is just here to push Biron, nothing more.

He doesn't deserve anything more than a two-way deal. He looked awful for Jersey last season.

I think ray emery is a fantastic goaltender ... When he was in Ottawa his playoff performance was great, he was always a starter in my mind
- RileyB77

I agree! Emery is a starter goalie IMO. However, Emery has found a way to "plague" himself in most teams he played for, including Ottawa. He had a temper problem, still has an attitude problem. Ray Emery is a great goalie on his own, but is he really the goaltender you want to build a franchise around? I personally don't think so.

Those are my two cents.

Maybe this is a little simplistic, but although these guys are pros, I still think players play better when they are enjoying the game. I think Torts was perfect for the team after Renney, and the players were able to put up with the physical and mental stress that came with playing under Torts because they were successful. I think that eventually grows old, however, and last year, neither Richards, not many players on that team looked like they were having any fun. One can say, live with, their professionals, but for large portions of last year, they just seemed like they were playing joyless, uninspired hockey. Indeed, there best game of the year was that Pitt game, when they god of infusion of guys from outside of the organization.

Torts is a great coach, IMO, but I don't think he will be able to stick anywhere more than 4-5 years if he doesn't learn a lighter touch (at times).

Ive always liked Hedberg, solid backup goalie but if last year was any indication Biron should definitely be ahead of him.

I wouldn't mind having an experienced NHL Vet in the minors just in case someone goes down

Over Biron though? Hedberg in the minors is something I can live with but I think if he isn't the backup here, he will likely, get a chance to backup elsewhere in the NHL.

Unless Biron is out of shape, this isn't happening. Biron is a solid backup and on some teams, could start. Just gotta watch that 5-hole

No I would rather have Biron. Plus, it seems Biron and Hank have a very good relationship.
