You have to be right in your evaluations of your players far more often than not. Because if they are wrong they will be hamstrung for years to come.

Isn't it odd that the traditionally smaller market clubs, or if you prefer, teams that may not always spend to the cap, like Buffalo and New Jersey are the ones committing big dollars on long term deals on less proven players while the big market teams who annually spend to the cap are forced to try to cram their young players under the cap?

I understand that clubs like Buffalo and New Jersey are taking calculated risks signing those deals now hoping to reap the rewards of superstar players making well below-market salaries but the downside if Hodgson or Henrique don't turn into legit top centers or suffer injury can put each of these programs in a big hole.

This whole situation seems bass-ackwards to me.

Dont think buff and nj are good examples. Buff has pegula who loves to spend and nj now has an owner with really deep pockets.

Derek Stepan had 6 game winning goals last season.

Probably gets 10 if it was a full season.

That's right....The Isles are taking public transportation to their first day of training camp at Barclays. Garden City to Atlantic Avenue. They don't look like they play for the Nets so they won't be recognized in Brooklyn

Can you guys start talking about how the Isles suck or something so we can get some entertainment in these boards. This site has been dead lately. You would think with the season a few weeks away this site would be going crazy.

I'm still a little confused. You have 2 bloggers now? Or 1 1/2 if you count Dee as a half.

And Torts presence as head coach was a reason why he chose to sign with the Rangers. How fast things change.

Old man already looks winded from 2 on 1 drills, he already left the ice with an injury

I think players started losing confidence and patience with Torts after the previous season with all the injuries the team suffered from blocking shots. With the same mentality of "you block shots or you don't play" probably got stale when players couldn't play even when blocking shots because they were out of gas or hurt. I don't mind players blocking shots for their goalie, but when I see a player like Chara wind up for one of his 100+mph slappers; I'm sorry, I will step out of the way of that one and let Hank stop it. Seriously, didn't Dubi and Callahan both get injured from blocking one of his shots?

Additionally, offensive players also don't like collapsing deep in their own defensive zone all the time. It's tough to maintain a momentem groove of scoring when you generate zero fast breaks every game and have a power(less) play that's managed by the assistant coach whos responsibility is the defensemen.

Last season, Torts took no responsibility in the game other than benching guys for penalties or not diving in front bombs headed at Hank. I'd lose a bit of faith in that coach, too.
