He'll of a piece that wasn't spell checked and is missing words so sentences don't make sense. No wonder he loves Garth.
- bjm1717

A little anal retentive today?

The content and message of the piece came across very clearly. A rare occurrence here. I will give him a pass on spelling and missing words.

Spell check on iPhones sometimes do that. His point is what mattered most. I find it interesting that you chastise others for missing punctuation and/or spell check, then do it yourself, reference "it it" and missing commas, amongst other grammatical errors! As for your comment about dropping a load in your butt, that's your own personal truth, and you are entitled!
- Hokeeguy9

you're talking to someone that just referenced his parents.

sorry glenn beck. please enlighten me on the bloded.

and for what he did in Boston I'll always remember fondly. the way he left and the way he put himself first, before the team, i'll always be disappointed in.

and i'm not talking about answers to media. i'm talking about what he volunteered, without prompting, through social media.

- Fountain-San

Agree completely. Would like to see him do well wherever he lands. Just as long as it is far away from Boston.

thomas was very vocal about his teaparty views and why he's afraid of the federal gov't. he also was very vocal about supporting the owner of that chicken chain who's owner hates gay people. all of this on top of the whitehouse is why he got a lot of grief. he needs to keep his mouth shut
- Fountain-San

Why should he keep his mouth shut? You just demonstrated perfectly how his beliefs have been entirely misrepresented.

The "chicken chain who's owner hates gay people"? Post a link of evidence of this. Said he didn't believe in gay marriage. Thomas supported his right to express his belief.

Apparently, your litmus test to lose your 1st amendment right or "shut up" is whether you agree with the statement. Kind of like others who say Thomas is not a team player but say nothing when a Rasheed Wallace or a left leaning player protests.

he also has an obligation to his team and employers. andrew ference was the biggest tree hugging liberal in boston sports but no one cared because from 9-5 he was all about the bruins.
- Fountain-San

BS, if Ference had refused to go to the Bush White House he would have been called a hero in Boston.

negative.

you have no idea on that. people in boston ask a lot of their athletes, maybe too much but all they really want is loyalty to the team before personal agendas. regardless of blue or red.

and boston isn't really THAT liberal.

when i say keep his mouth shut i mean he needs to not be a distraction to the team. no more, no less. any coach, manger or teammate would expect that.

Wanting somebody to shut up has nothing to do with the first amendment. Now, if he was calling for Tim Thomas to be jailed over his refusal, you'd have something.

that's all. you think everyone that went was an obama supporter? no way. but they were Bruins.
- Fountain-San

They were Bruins? As if that somehow trumps a person's civil rights.

It is not even an uncommon form of protest - even for sports teams. The venom you spew is tied to your politics.

That chicken chain owner just vocally spoke out against gay marriage and basically said all gay ppl are defying "god" and that they're basically going to cause the rapture.

He's a loony.

here we go. you have no idea about my politics. and venom? hyperbole much? it's not the white house. for me it's the way he went off the resevation in a very public way. HE LEFT THE FRICKEN TEAM. that's why i'm mad. he was the greatest goalie in recent bruins memory maybe the greatest ever, at least the greatest story, and he imploded. see ya. (frank) the media or politics. he melted down and bailed.

No, I shouldn't over generalize about the people of Boston. It is not necessary though when dealing with the press - particularly in Boston. Sporting press or mainline media.

Of course it does. Telling someone to shut up when they are speaking politically is telling them not to exercise their first amendment right.

And no, I am not saying it is a civil rights violation.

Well said.

Dropping this one.

I hope Thomas plays like a beast wherever he ends up. Incredible character person. Helps so many old friends and family in MI. He even did so when he wasn't making the big $$$. The man is an inspiration.

In any other industry in America a company can dismiss an employee for public comments that they don't want to be associated with and the first amendment doesn't protect you from that. The Bruins would have been completely within their rights to tell their employee to shut his mouth. Athletes tend to get a little more leeway in that regard but their comments are still open to backlash. Thankfully, the first amendment doesn't protect you from that either. Again, freedom of speech just means that you can say what you want, not that you can do it without criticism.
