Ah to be able to play pranks on them 1st day back.
Vorachek's locker would have a small garbage truck in front of it filled with feathers.
EDIT: 1 share of a bubblewrap company in Mez's...

So Cleary is not a Flyer? I'm ok with however it shakes out. Would have liked to have Cleary, but would also have liked to resign Gagne. Either way its still a strong team.

As far as Pitkanen going down, what perfect timing. Maybe we can get something out of them for Meszaros. Or slightly more for Coburn.

Just because you can arrange a way to become cap compliant doesn't mean there's not a problem.

I can show up for work every day sober, doesn't mean I'm not an alcoholic.

- mayorofangrytown

That's a poor analogy that doesn't fit. What is the specific problem?

28 years old and he's played 83 NHL games. In which he couldn't crack an awful Leafs roster. He's exactly the guy you want.
- PLindbergh31

He's the 13th or 14th Forward on the team. He fills a role and is cap freindly. Nothing wrong with Rosehill in that spot. But I guess someone has to take the place of Shelley for you to call a waste.

I would love to know what that complication was.

Part of me hopes it's Cleary backing out but I wonder if the league has stepped in and whined about the Flyers circumventing the cap somehow.

- johndewar

There is no Cap circumvention. The Flyers signed him to a PTO contract. Perfectly legal.

Question...

Since they must clear space before adding Cleary on the roster, which won't happen before the start of the season (barring a trade beforehand), I'm assuming the league hasn't approved the contact as of yet.

Would the Flyers on the hook for his "contract" if he were to get hurt at camp? Would it go against the cap?

Or is he playing without a contract and just insuring himself for the amount of the deal?

- 77rams

There is no contract to approve at this time. He is in Flyers Camp on a PTO.

I can't see any team taking a chance on Mez without watching him play a few meaningful games first. Of course, I hope I'm wrong.

Nothing to do with anything in the post that you quoted.

I was talking in a Canes blog and someone mention Niskanen, which is probably a safer bet.

Zero interest in Komisarek. And I pray the Flyers don't either.

I hope Mez comes out both guns blazing and puts all you guys to shame.

I'm willing to see what he has when healthy. He has a ton to prove. We know it, he knows it, his coach, gm and the other players know it.
But I'm willing to give him the opportunity to fight for his spot this season. If we trade him I'd be fine with it at the trade deadline or (gods forbid ) he actually ends his current contract with us at the end of the season.

If Cleary is not going to be a Flyer, so be it. It's not like they are losing out on Mario Lemieux!

They could still re-sign Gagne, as it doesn't seem like any other club is rushing to sign him. Or they could just go with Talbot on the 3rd line and let Laughton, McGinn, Hall and Rosehill compete for time on the 4th line. Either way, it has still been a good offseason IMO.

Shelley proved me wrong. He was far from a waste. He was the highest paid mascot in the NHL.
