Yeah. What will prob end up happening is if they don't sign Gagne they will move Talbot up to the third line (which I have no problem with) and put Rosehill on the 4th line (which is a waste of time).
- PLindbergh31

Rosehill is not a waste of time. He skates well, can get in on the forecheck, and play a physical game.

The only waste of time would be complaining about him. The guy barely even registers cap-wise.

Are the moves open to the Flyers that have been suggested to become Cap complaint, incorrect? Or not feasible?
- MJL

Just because you can arrange a way to become cap compliant doesn't mean there's not a problem.

28 years old and he's played 83 NHL games. In which he couldn't crack an awful Leafs roster. He's exactly the guy you want.

Not exactly sure why, but it appears as if there is some complication between Daniel Cleary and PHI. Told he will not be joining Flyers.

- PLindbergh31

I would love to know what that complication was.

Part of me hopes it's Cleary backing out but I wonder if the league has stepped in and whined about the Flyers circumventing the cap somehow.

First off, Happy Birthday Bill! Keep up the great work!

As Jsaq has mentioned, the Flyers have multiple players that they can send down with little or no risk of losing to get cap compliant, before putting Pronger on LTIR. So can we please put the stressing over the cap issue to rest for at least this season?

RE Laughton: If the kid significantly outplays Hall, then let him center the 4th line. If not, another year in the OHL and a shot to play in the World Juniors isn't exactly a prison sentence and it won't harm him in the least. For years the Red Wings have made a point to bring all their prospects up slowly and it seems to be working pretty darn well for them.

As far as cap issues in future seasons go, these things have a way of working themselves out. The combo of the cap going up quite a bit coupled with inevitable trades and injuries should take care of any cap issues.

As I have said before, I'm happy with the Cleary signing. He's a very hard working player who skates pretty well, plays physical, can chip in some offense, fill in on the pp if needed and is a decent penalty killer. He also seems to elevate his game in the playoffs, and you can never have enough of those types of players.

I believe the roster will work itself out and either Mezaros or Grossmann (who has 2 bad knees and is coming off a concussion) will be moved. There are still quite a few teams out there who are thin on D and we all know that players will get injured in preseason. Heck, with the Flyers luck, Mez and Grossman will probably both get injured in their first scrimmage and the numbers problem will thus be solved.

Overall, I think Holmgren and staff have done a nice job this offseason. Lecavalier is an upgrade over Briere, the tandem of Mason and Emery is an upgrade over Bryz, Cleary is an upgrade over Fedotenko and Streit adds offense to a group of Dmen that was short in that department.

Now lets get the season started and let the fun begin!!

Question...

Since they must clear space before adding Cleary on the roster, which won't happen before the start of the season (barring a trade beforehand), I'm assuming the league hasn't approved the contact as of yet.

Would the Flyers on the hook for his "contract" if he were to get hurt at camp? Would it go against the cap?

Or is he playing without a contract and just insuring himself for the amount of the deal?

I really don't see what he'll bring and my problem isn't with the cap space it's just that I don't get why we even sign him? There are players moving over to Europe for a year that would make more sense as a signing.

Could be noise that we can't officially sign him until we can make all of our fancy tap dance moves.
Who knows...

Has to be this, somehow.

Or, the league has it's collective panties in a knot over the whole "handshake" nature of the deal itself?

Ek reporting Joni Pitkanen is out for the season with a foot injury. I get the feeling moving a defenseman may have just gotten a bit easier.

I assume either he or the Flyers would take out an insurance policy until he's signed.

They have the same speculation that everyone has. None of it is factual. Regardless, what does that have to do with the post that you quoted?

To be fair, based on their current use of enforcers, they were probably assessing Rosehill based on his offensive abilities.

Jake Voracek should have beaten the snot out of Steve Sullivan with that sneaky little poop's "excuse me" rabbit punches during Game 3.
