ok i wasn't around all day, so the story as we know it so far:

flyers believe he's in on a PTO with a deal tentatively in place, but a complication (in the form of ken holland) arose and now there's doubt about whether or not he's gonna show at camp tomorrow

is that about right?

You're splitting hairs. You know I mean if the Cap was applied as it will be in October they're over the cap. If you're going to call me on that you can spend all your time running around correcting all the articles written on the internet about all the teams that are currently "over the cap". Don't act dumb to try to make a point, it's just emabarrassing.

And there's a big difference between moving players to places you don't want them because they have to and simply assigning players to various clubs because that's where they belong.

And no, waivers have changed so the ability to move players have changed so working within the cap has changed so it's not all the same.

It's not splitting hairs. It's how the Cap works. What Cap World do the Flyers operate in? But some want to operate in a different Cap World.
When the Cap is applied in October, the Flyers will be Cap compliant. Not over the Cap. But I guess if we want to pretend that in October, when the Cap is "applied"' LTIR, waiving players and assigning them to minors doesn't exist. because in the fantasy Cap World, only what we want to apply, applies. Here's direct evidence of how I'm right. Go to Capgeek. Are you telling me that the Flyers are going to carry 10 defenseman on the roster? Because that's what Cap geek has. So I'm acting dumb and it's embarrassing! Want another example? The NHL roster limit is 23. Capgeek currently has 25 players on the Flyers roster!
And there isn't a big difference between moving players where you don't want them. It's part of the Cap. And all perfectly legal within the rules of the CBA.

And yes, a lot of the articles written on the Cap, especially considering the Flyers, is incorrect. It's a shame that 8 years in, writers covering the sport, still can't get it right.

Waivers have not changed one bit. Waivers work exactly the same as they did in the previous CBA. The only change that has been made is Recall waivers have been eliminated. But that would not affect what the Flyers want to do, even if recall waivers were in affect. Waivers, and Recall waivers are two separate transactions in the NHL.

The perspective I have of how the Flyers managed the cap is not flawed it's just not yours. You don't like the way I look at it that's your problem not mine.

Show me once where I said they should hold onto 10M in cap space and I'll pay you that in Snicker bars. I want them to use their contract spots and money intelligently, mostly they do, sometimes I don't think they do. When I don't, I'll express it. Feel free to agree or disagree. Don't hurt your back trying to bend over to educate me. It's not necessary. I'm perfectly fine.

- mayorofangrytown

Sure it's flawed when your not taking into consideration exactly how the Cap works. You state that the Flyers are over the Cap. Based on what? Are you telling me that the perception you have that the Flyers are over the Cap, doesn't figure into forming your opinion?

I didn't state that you did say that they should hold onto 10M in Cap space. Simply asking what would you prefer? Because if they didn't spend all the Cap money allotted to them, there wouldn't be a Cap problem in your view. What is your choice?
Nobody, myself included is stating that they don't make errors in judgement on what players to sign. But that's true of every team.

What I'm saying is basically, that there is no Cap problem with this team. It is well under control.

Well apparently Detroit offered him a three year deal and slightly above 2MM per year just before July 5th. So all of the hate the press threw at Homer is just the typical bashing the Flyers usually get. If the Wings thought Cleary would hold up for three years then it kind of takes the wind out of the sails of the media, seeing as they would know the most about his health.

http://www.mlive.com/redw...offer_to_daniel_clea.html

EDIT: The Flyers signed Cleary for virtually the same deal as Detroit, with the typical raise in salary to convince the player to leave the place he is comfortable. The Penguins trade a 1st, 2 seconds, a 5th, plus prospects for Morrow (Gone), Iginla (Gone), and Douglas Murray (LOL, Gone) and Shero WON GM of the Year. And Homer is crazy?! Perspective people, perspective.

Question.

How can a rookie with extremely limited NHL experience out play an NHL vet a for the fourth line role? Is there really believe Scott Laughton could beat out Adam Hall at what makes Hall useful in the NHL? Can Laughton win faceoffs, kill penalties and grind it out as best as Hall who's been doing it his entire career?

This is the stuff that really bugs me.

According to Panotch, ...It began as just a discussion about having 34-year-old forward Dan Cleary come into the Flyers' camp on a PTO -- a tryout.

It ended with the Flyers giving the Stanley Cup veteran left wing an actual contract -- three years for $8.25 million, according to an NHL source, who confirmed the signing as reported by the Detroit Free Press late Monday.

I wondered out loud here earlier how the NHL could allow the Flyers to sign a player to a contract knowing that the league wouldn't honor it.

What really annoyed me is that after reading the Free Press articles, I didn't see where it confirms a signing at all. As matter of fact, it states how Cleary cannot sign because the Flyers are over the cap.

C'mon.

It's bad writing. They were going to bring in Cleary on a PTO. He has not been signed to an NHL contract with the Flyers.

Can I officially say "whew, that's not too bad" yet?

I'm guessing the kid working for free who updates the site was either given an incomplete list or did a haphazard job of entering the names.

Can Laughton beat out Matt Read, Sean Couturier, Dan Cleary, Max Talbot, Zac Rinaldo or Jay Rosehill or do we keep him just because his ticket's free in the best spot in the house to watch the games and has potential to be the Flyers newest and best fan because he'll never miss watching a game?

So Scoreachek decided to not come to camp. He was originally slated to attend but now it seems like he won't be reporting. My sources tell me it was NOT cooking related.
