the "bad" you speak of is hugely overblown. middle of the pack

I think Toronto's defensive numbers should improve this year with a second year of Carlyle, gus like Bolland/Kulemin/McClement/Bozak/Bernier for an entire year.

Liles has been the spit bucket of these boards for ages.

Today he's a top 4

Forgive me for being confused.

- robin_steele264

Liles is redundant is the problem. With Franson signed, Liles isn't in the top 4, and what is the point of having $3.8M cap hit on bottom pairing? Ranger and Fraser can hold the 5-6nicely for $1.5M less than Liles by himself.

If they end up trading Franson I'm fine with Liles staying put until one of the many D prospects takes his place

i left for a couple hours and they were still going

Alright, change of topic. I'm curious here. If you could pick between Komarov or Raymond for our 3rd line, who would you take? For arguments sake, you could have either for the same price.

oh it will be better.. more support from the forwards and a goalie who doesnt let rebounds out a nickel slot machine will make a massive difference

i dont hate him.. i just see him for what he is.

a 5th d-man who has a nice shot who COULD develop into a 3 / 4 guy

but when a player is 25-26 you dont pay him for potential.. you pay him for what he has proven to bring to the table.

komarov 100x over

he's a pest.. gets other guys off their game

raymond prolly brings more offense to the table but at 3rd line wing... i'll take the pest.

- robin_steele264

he got obliterated in every game against teams with 2 very good lines. (Bos, Pitts).

Even in the playoffs he was only ever good offensively, but was severely exposed by the Krecji line the entire series.

2 years 6M
or
1 year 2.5M

I bet the Leafs are offering something like that. They want him to sign 2 years and reextend if he can prove himself, but he wants one year or 4.

Raymond brings more offensively. Can put the puck in the net, I personally think he fits our team nicely. Makes up for that "loss of speed" everyone keeps talking about.

Komarov is an awesome guy, but I don't see him as anything more than a 4th line grinder.

Regular season - Komarov

Winning the cup, which means outscoring the opposition in the playoffs 16 times. Then - Raymond

Good question really

actually having time to practise and teach those who need it will be hugely beneficial for Carlyle too.

I honestly think this guy can step into the lineup and effectively make franson expendable. Except the Leafs will be better in their own end.

I am betting he also will have a better influence on younger D learning to be pros as well.

Agreed...Leafs could make better use of a Komarov type guy than a Raymond type guy...Mason might only be used for limited ice time if he stays and add speed, but hes a little soft on his skates.

Franson may hold out a bit longer but he signs fairly soon for mid 2s. He really has no other options and I think that is fair $$ for 1 more year till he proves more.

When this happens Nonis' off season will be complete I think he has done a really good job.

- We have better goaltending
- Ranger I think will be a real bargain. People forget this guy was a solid defenceman before he called it quits. Top 4. This guy is going to be a good addition.
- Top 2 lines are better with the addition of Clarkson. Everyone is still very young and entering maybe their best years.
- 3 rd line will be really good with Bolland, Kulemin ( playing his proper role on the 3rd line not being asked to play top six) plus either McClement or Raymond ( who he somehow managed to leave enough money to sign)
- Gardiner breaks out this year, Dion is playing for a new contract and again most Dmen are young entering prime years too.

Holes ? for sure... most notable is at 1C but this team is BETTER.

wouldnt be shocked at all if its term.... the leafs dont need anymore contracts to negotiate next summer.. they already have their hands full
